WA TVS Alumni Banquet

The West Alexandria TVS Alumni Banquet will be Saturday, June 7 in the TVS School Commons. Social Time begins at 4:30 and runs until 6 p.m. Tickets are $16 per person and must be purchased by June 2. Tickets can be purchased at the Pin Up Shoppe, Roselius Insurance, Twin Valley Bank, LCNBank or Alley Cuts. Also, call Carol Lunsford for arrangements at 937-839-4085.

West Alexandria Farmers Market

The Farmers’ Market and More is located at Peace Park and is held each Thursday from 5-8 p.m., May 1 to Aug. 28. This family friendly market will showcase local food vendors, local produce, local entertainment, local independent consultants including but not limited to Avon and Tupperware, and many local crafters.

Space is still available if you wish to be a vendor. Spaces are 10 x 10 and are $2 a week or $20 for the whole season. We offer free parking and have public restrooms. All money raised is used by the Celebration Committee to provide the community with fireworks for July 4. Contact Carol Lunsford at 839-4085 for additional information. Our Rubber Duck Regatta is coming June 21 at the American Legion from 5 -8 p.m.!

Community Appreciation Days

In appreciation for our Fire and Police Departments and EMS there will be local music groups beginning at 2 p.m. and a meal at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 1 at Peace Park. Our new Fire Truck will be on display, come and meet the new Police K-9 “Niko” and watch an EMS demonstration. All proceeds fund the July 3 Fireworks.

Community Garage Sales

West Alexandria Community Garage Sales will run June 5-7. There will be no permits required.

American Legion

Memorial Day Services, Sunday, May 25 begin at 7 a.m. with an Honor Guard Breakfast at Post 322, 1477 Ohio 503 South. We will leave for various cemeteries at 8 a.m.. The Deck Ceremony will be at Post 322 at 11 a.m.. Sugar Grove Cemetery Services will be at 2 p.m. on Ohio 503 North.


Thanks to the community for your generous support of the Postal food drive. The Foodbank served 71 families in April. This includes thirty-seven seniors, ninety-seven children and totals two hundred seventy-nine individuals. Items needed are ramen noodles, tuna, can pasta, egg noodles, pork & beans, shampoo, toothpaste and bar soap. You may contact the Foodbank at 839-1615. Hours are Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m.-noon at St. John Church, 20 East South Street. The first Sunday of each month, non-perishable donations can be brought to Salem and St. John Lutheran Churches.

Calvary Baptist Church

Calvary Baptist Church hosts a Good News Bible Club for students in grades K-4 at the TVS Middle School. The club meets every Thursday from 3:30-5 p.m. as long as school is open. Contact Wayne Cook at 937-336-9600 or Linda Cook 336-9500 for more information.

Clothesline Campaign - Hanging Out Human Trafficking to Dry! Invest in one or several of their clothespins — available for $5, $10 or $20 each — and benefit Oasis House and the programs and services they offer.

Dayton Dragons Outing will be Monday, June 30 at 7 p.m. There are still plenty of tickets available to attend The Dayton Dragons versus the Lake County Captains. Invite your family and friends. Reserve your tickets today by calling or emailing the office with your desired number. Seating is located in the stands, not the lawn. Tickets are $5 each and are on a first come first serve basis until our allotted quantity is gone. Payment for tickets is due by May 1.

Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church

SWELCA is taking orders for red geraniums for Pentecost Sunday, June 8. Please phone the church office, 937-839-4210.

Salem Lutheran Youth Organization, we will be taking a trip after Worship on May 18, to Heaven’s Corner Zoo. This trip is free to youth group members, potential members and a friend. We will meet at the Fellowship Hall at 12:45 p.m. to carpool to the zoo. Call Lindsay Watson with any questions at 937-733-6560. Salem LYO will be hosting a soup luncheon directly after worship services on the first Sunday of each month in the Fellowship Hall. Cost is by donation. The collected funds will assist the youth attending the ELCA National Youth Gathering in 2015. Youth Committee Meetings will be held the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Marie Reynolds Memorial Scholarship Applications are available for members in the Church Office Secretary’s door. Completed application and required documents are due no later than July 15 and can be returned to the Church Secretary’s office or mailed to Salem Lutheran Church, 70 E. Dayton Street. Coups for Troops was created to assist families of those who serve our country in the U.S. military. Commissaries overseas accept manufacturer coupons up to two months past expiration. Save your recently expired or current coupons and place them in the basket provided in the church library. Please no pet supplies or local restaurants.
