Through June and July, the more you read, the better your chances for prizes during the library’s Summer Reading program. With programs for kids, teens, and adults, there’s something for everyone. Sign up at your local Preble County District Library branch in Camden, Eaton, Eldorado, New Paris, West Alexandria, West Elkton, or West Manchester.

Weekly Crafts

Through June and July, stop into the West Alexandria Library every Monday from 12-7 p.m. for a new weekly craft.

The Camden Library will have crafts for children every Tuesday from June 13-27 and July 11-18 at 5:30 p.m. Stop in for a chance to build edible trucks, make yummy putty, paint your own masterpiece, and more. Check the full schedule at www.preblelibrary.org under “Events.”

Gadget Magic (ages 8-12)

We’ll be creating working robots, cars, and other electronics with the library’s LittleBits electronic kits. Registration required. Stop into your library or call to register for the program. Catch Gadget Magic at:

West Alexandria Library on Wednesday, June 14 at 2 p.m.

Eldorado Library on Tuesday, June 20 at 2:30 p.m.

Camden Library on Wednesday, June 28 at 4 p.m.

Teens:

Harry Potter Puzzle Room (teens in grades 6-12)

Someone has traveled back in time to hide one of Voldemort’s horcruxes before it can be destroyed. A locked chest in the Hogwarts library may contain your one chance to defeat the Dark Lord.

In this escape-room style puzzle game, teens are challenged to riddle their way through the clues surrounding this case. Can you solve the puzzles to unlock the chest and retrieve the horcrux before time’s up? (Registration required. Contact your library to register).

Wednesday, June 14 at 3:30 p.m. at the West Alexandria Library.

Tuesday, June 20 at 4 p.m. at the Eldorado Library.

Wednesday, June 28 at 5:30 p.m. at the Camden Library.

Cosplay Crash Course (teens in grades 6-12)

As we look ahead to a summer of fantasy and adventure, learn the basics of costume making at the Eaton Library on Tuesday, June 13 at 3:30 p.m. This crash course will give you the opportunity to brainstorm, design, and build. Feel free to bring a costume you are currently working on, pictures, patterns, or ideas. Painting and sewing services will be available as we get an early start on costumes for Halloween, cosplay, or our Summer Reading Comic Con finale.

Adults:

Basic Computer Class

On Thursday, June 15 at 6:30 p.m., we’ll talk about using the mouse, what the buttons on the keyboard do (as well as some typing practice), and what you can expect to find on your computer screen. This class will be at the Eaton Library.

Fantasy Book Talk

Stop by the West Elkton Library with your favorite fantasy book, and discuss it around the table with other guests and the librarians on Thursday, June 15 at 4 p.m. Who knows, you may even find a new favorite book. Coffee and tea provided.

Teacup Candles

Join us at the Camden Library on Thursday, June 15 at 6:30 p.m. to make tea-scented candles in a teacup. Be sure to register by June 1 to ensure we have enough supplies for everyone. Call (937) 452-3142 to register or stop into the Camden Library.

Scan Day

Bring your old documents and photos to the library’s genealogy department, the Preble County Room, on Saturday, July 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Staff will scan them, keep a digital copy for the genealogy archives, and send you home with the originals and a digital copy on a flash drive. The service is free. It helps you get your historical documents digitized and expands the Preble County Room’s collection. Bring your own USB flash drive, or purchase one the day of the event. Call 937-456-4970 for more information.

Message Center

At the New Paris Library, we’ll turn a baking sheet into a decorative, magnetic message board. Sign up at the library or call 937-437-7242, so we’re sure to have enough supplies. This program is Tuesday, June 20 at 6:30 p.m.

Eaton Library Creative Writers Group

Do you like to write? Join your fellow writers at the Eaton Library once a month for our Creative Writers Group. You don’t have to share, but you are certainly welcome to. We’ll provide writing activities and prompts for those who need a little extra inspiration. The next meeting of the Eaton Library Creative Writers Group is Thursday, June 22 at 6:30 p.m.
