TVS Community Picnic scheduled for Aug. 10

WEST ALEXANDRIA — The West Alexandria Business/Community/School Partnership committee will hold its 26th annual Community Picnic on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017, from 4-8 p.m. in the Commons at the Twin Valley South School.

The committee is very proud of what the picnic has become and what it means to the community and its school children.

Since 1992, the Community Picnic has played an important role as a way for people to come together and gather information about local organizations/businesses, learn about TVS schools and its groups, build community spirit and pride, and be a place for people to talk, mingle, and have a good time.

Stop by between 4-6 p.m. to see what impact local businesses and organizations have in the community. Many of these organizations, including the HIT Foundation, Preble County Arts Association, Community Action Partnership (CAP) and Preble County Success will also have activities setup for children. Also, Tina Wagers, owner of Bratt Tasties, is sponsoring a coloring contest for grades K-6. Children will color a picture at the picnic for judging. Winners will be announced at 6 p.m. with prizes provided by Bratt Tasties.

As in years past, meal tickets are $1.50. There will be drawings throughout the evening for door prizes donated by businesses and organizations. You can buy additional tickets for the drawing for $1 each. Drawings will begin at 5 p.m.

The last hour of the picnic will feature entertainment by local musician, Eric Loy. Inspired by the sound of the Beatles, Eric has continued to explore and coerce music of diverse parameters from rock to jazz to classical to new age. The culmination has distilled into an eclectic blend which Loy delivers with humor and panache on solo finger-style guitar and on his custom-built 24 string Harp-Guitar. On stage, Loy has opened for guitar legends Leo Kottke, Adrian Legg, Preston Reed, Jorma Kaukonen (Jefferson Airplane), Over The Rhine, and more.

In the teaching field, Loy has been a full-time guitar teacher for the last four decades. Several CD albums of original compositions, both solo and with Hipperoos (jazz-rock fusion power trio), have been recorded and all are available from www.ericloy.com website and at live performances.
