National Senior Center Month, Fireside Chat

EATON — When someone says “senior center,” images of bingo may be the first thing that comes to mind, but today’s senior center is so much more.

During National Senior Center Month this September, the Preble County Council on Aging (PCCOA) is celebrating the vital community resources they provide as Preble County’s Masters of Aging.

From Legal Aid to sewing classes, and Thursday Night Dances to art labs, the Senior Activities Center is a community nexus where seniors find friendship, meaning, and purpose. To highlight the power of these programs and activities, the PCCOA has planned a Fireside Chat on Sept. 15, from 10 a.m.-noon at the Senior Activities Center to celebrate National Senior Center Month.

We have invited our Preble County Commissioners Creech, Day, and Robertson, Senator Bill Beagle, Representative Jeff Rezabek, Congressman Warren Davidson, Rob Portman, and Sherrod Brown to join us for our first Fireside Chat. This will not be the traditional forum where we ask questions of our legislators, instead we will be telling them our own stories, and how important this agency is in our community.

Take the time to share your story about the importance of our organization, and allow us to present it to our guests. Your opinion matters. You may bring your letter to the senior center or email it to Shelley Ratliff at [email protected].

“Today’s seniors aren’t looking to slow down,” said Shelley Ratliff, Executive Director of the PCCOA. “They want to make new friends, learn new skills, and remain relevant in the community. We support their curiosity and growth through fun and engaging programs, while also providing practical tools and resources to help them stay healthy and independent.”

The Preble County Council on Aging also provides Transportation Services, Information & Referrals, Home Delivered Meals, Homemaker Services, Agency Activities, Congregate Meals, Caregiver Support Groups, and Minor Home Repair. To learn more about PCCOA, call 937-456-4749 or visit our website at www.prebleseniorcenter.org, or Facebook page. The PCCOA is located at 800 E. St. Clair St., Eaton, OH 45320. We are open Mondays through Fridays 8 a.m-4 p.m.
