Kiwanis Oktoberfest

Kiwanis Oktoberfest is seeking vendors for the Oct. 14 and 15 event in Peace Park. This year we will be serving beer and we will have a 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. demonstrations with seven K-9 dog units performing. Therefore, we can not allow any pets on the grounds throughout the Oktoberfest.

AKS will, again, be sponsoring their annual Oktoberfest Queen, Kings and Princess contest. Watch for applications at your schools and newspapers. AKS is looking for any past Oktoberfest Queens, so please contact Wendy Chesney on Facebook if you have served as a queen in past years.

Bingo

The West Alexandria Fire Dept. Bingo will begin on Thursdays, starting Sept. 7, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and bingo beginning at 6:30 p.m. This is an earlier start so make sure to mark your calendars! Early Bird Games start at 6:30 p.m. to help out those coming after work to have a little extra time. Kid-friendly atmosphere, but all players must be 18 or over, at 25 E. Dayton Street.

American Legion Post 322

Sr. Fun Bunch meets Thursdays from 1-4 p.m.

Ladies Night and Euchre take place every Wednesday at 7 p.m., $5 entry as well as a 50/50 raffle.

SAL Golf Tournament will tee off at 8 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 10. Sign up in the Canteen.

Next Fish Fry will be Oct. 1 at 1477 Ohio 503 South.

BBQ Chicken or Pork Chop Dinners

The WA Celebration Committee is selling Smoked Chicken for $7 or Pork Chop Dinners for $8 for carry-out at the WA Police Department on Ohio 503 N. on Sunday, Sept. 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Reserve your dinners by contacting Michelle Laughlin at the WA Library or Carol Lunsford at 839-4085. Proceeds support the community with fireworks for July 4 and new toys and repairs for Santa Villa.

Salem Lutheran Church

Blessing our Heroes: Sunday, Sept. 10 at 10:30 a.m. Salem Lutheran Church will have a service of blessing and honor all public service personnel, Police, Fire, EMS, social workers, doctors, nurses, teachers etc. in memory of 9/11. There will be a light meal afterwards in the Fellowship Hall at 70 E. Dayton Street in West Alexandria.

Junior Lutherans, for children ages 3 in Preschool through 6th grade, will begin Wednesday, Sept. 13 with a meal at 6 p.m. and program at 6:30 p.m.

Chancel and bell choir practices will resume Wedesday, Sept. 6.

The church will have a float in the Pork Festival parade, Saturday, Sept. 16, in honor of our 200-year anniversary.

The Men’s Breakfast and Bible Study will meet Saturday, Sept. 16 at 7:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

Middle School Ministry meets Sunday evenings at 7 p.m.

Adult Bible study meets Thursdays at 7 p.m., studying the book of Revelation.

Special Offering for September will go to Adopt-a-Family.

St. John Church

We will serve a Church Family Supper at 5:30 on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at 20 E. South Street.

Choir practice begins Sept. 6 at 6:30p.m.

Celebration Sunday will take pl,ace Sept. 10 with Breakfast at 9a.m. Balloon Launch at 9:30a.m., Worship at 10a.m. and Carry-in Lunch at 11a.m. The Corn Hole Tournament will begin at 11:30a.m.

Skylar Reckers will be our guest speaker during Sunday School on Sept. 17.

A Concert by Jerry Winkler will be held on Sept. 24.

We will provide a meal to the Homeless Shelter on Sept. 28.

We are collecting empty pill bottles, labels removed, as well we clean, used shoes for missions.

We continue to collect for WACOCA Local Needs, with $330 collected so far.

St. John Lutheran, Ingomar

Join us for our annual Ice Cream Social on Saturday, Sept. 9 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The women of the church will be serving their delicious homemade chicken and noodles, hot sandwiches, salads, and desserts including several flavors of homemade ice cream! There will also be a bazaar table with handmade items to purchase. All proceeds from the the social will be donated to the Preble County Success Program and Preble County Veteran’s Services. The church is handicap accessible and air-conditioned, located at 2139 Enterprise Rd.

Church of the Brethren

The next Free Community Meal will be Wednesday, Sept. 6 from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Church of the Brethren, 22 E. Oak Street.
