Kids & Family Programs

New Year = More Borrows!

Kick the winter blues by catching up on your favorite TV series or by streaming your favorite album using Hoopla! During January and February, you can now check out up to 10 titles. This service is provided free by your library, and all you need to get started is your library card. Get started now at hoopladigital.com!

Winter Storytimes – West Alexandria Branch

Join us every Wednesday at 1 p.m. in January and February 2020 to hear a different puppet story! A snack item will be provided as well as a small craft.

Winter Reading Program Kick-off – West Alexandria Branch

Friday, Jan. 3, from noon-4 p.m. Come to the library for some hot cocoa to kick off Winter Reading! Sign up anytime during January or February and earn rewards for the books you read! There will be trivia, challenges, and prizes available for all ages.

Monday Crafts – West Alexandria Branch

Each week we will reduce, reuse, and recycle a variety of items into something new and exciting. Be sure to bring your imagination and creativity. The craft supplies will be available to all ages! Supplies will be out from noon-7 p.m. every Monday during January and February 2020.

Families: New Year Wishing Wand Craft – West Elkton Branch

Thursday, Jan. 9, at 4 p.m.: Make a New Year’s wish with a fun wishing wand craft. All supplies provided.

Winter Wonderland Crafts – W est Alexandria Branch

Tuesday, Jan. 14, at 5:30 p.m: Join us for a variety of winter-themed crafts where we try to recycle old items into new projects!

Winter Craft & Storytime – New Paris Branch

Mondays in January 2020 at 5 p.m.: kids and families, come to the New Paris Library to enjoy a winter-themed story and a cool winter craft!

Use one of our traveling tween kits during January 2020! Each month, we’ll have something new available to explore. Kits may include building challenges, stop-motion animation, vlogging, crafting, and more!

Weekly Teen Programs at the Eaton Library

On Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m., teens in grades 6-12 can come to the Eaton Library to enjoy activities such as coloring and simple crafting, board games, video games, and more! These programs are designed to be self-led. Just drop by any time from 3:30-5 p.m., sign in, and have fun!

Unity – Monthly Teen Group

Monday, Jan. 20, 2020 at 4 p.m. at the Eaton Branch: join us for the LGBTQ+ teen group, Unity! This meeting is a safe space, open to local teens (including allies) in grades 6-12. Join us for open discussion, as well as resources and information. The group will build objectives and goals, meeting agendas, future programming ideas, and more! Scavenger Hunt for Teens – Camden/New Paris/West Alexandria Branches

Participate in a month-long Scavenger Hunt with the Goose Chase app! Use your library’s device to compete against other branches by solving riddles, taking pictures, and completing challenges. Missions will update throughout the month, so stop back to earn more points for your team! Teens with the app on their own device can request a password from their librarian to join the team, as well.

Teen Book Club – January

Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 3:30 p.m. at the Eaton Branch: The Teen Book Club selection for the month of January will be Outrun the Moon by Stacey Lee!

Adult Craft: Terracotta Pot Snowman – Eaton Branch

Jan. 2, 2020 at 6:30 p.m.: Make an adorable snowman with paint, a clay pot, and some ribbon! All supplies provided. Registration required for this free program. Register in person or call 937-456-4331.

Adult Craft: Outdoor Snowman – West Alexandria Branch

Jan. 7,, 2020 at 5:30 p.m.: Come make a decorative snowman from wood, paint, and other decorations! All supplies provided. Reservations are not required but are requested to ensure we have enough supplies. Register at the library or call 533-4095.

Quick Tech Questions with Emily — Eaton Branch

Jan. 9 & 13, 2020 at 5 p.m.: Got a quick question about your device but don’t need to book an appointment for help? Drop in and see Emily the reference librarian at the Eaton Library! First come, first serve. This program, like all PCDL programs, is free to attend. No registration needed.

Relaxation Station: Cocoa and Coloring — Eaton Branch

Jan. 16 & 30, 2020 at 6 p.m.: join us at the library during the long winter evenings for some hot cocoa (or coffee, if you wish) and some coloring, all set to relaxing music!

Adult Craft: String Art Heart – New Paris Branch

Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 6:30 pm: Get ready for Valentine’s Day by making this string art heart craft at the library. Space is limited, so register now! Stop in or call 437-7242 to register.

Adult Craft: 3D Snowflake Decoration – West Manchester/Eldorado Branches

Jan. 22 & 23, 2020 at 4:30 p.m. at W. Manchester & Eldorado Libraries: Embrace the snow (at least indoors) with this beautiful snowflake that won’t melt on your furniture! All supplies (and hot cocoa) provided.

Creative Writers’ Group – Eaton Branch

Meets every fourth Friday of the month at 3:30 p.m. at the Eaton Branch: If you have a written piece you would like to share, please bring it to the meeting. You will not be expected to share, but you are certainly welcome to do so! Writing activities and prompts will be provided for those who need a little extra inspiration.

Homeschool

Homeschool Hour: Winter Watercolor – Eaton Branch

Jan. 15 & 22, at 3:30 p.m.: Practice different watercolor techniques to make your own work of art. This program is open to home educated children of all ages. This program is open to home-educated students of all ages. Please register in advance at the library or by calling 937-456-4331.
