Jack Block Day Recap
Games aplenty, hot dogs sizzling, ice cream melting, orange drink flowing, so where were the Lakengren families? Granted it was a sweltering afternoon, but in the shade, it wasn’t so bad. Logan, the dragon was there to meet children as they strolled the grounds. A DJ played music for all to enjoy. Even the dunking machine was popular for kids to hit the mark and send their friends to a watery splash. The pontoon boat rides were popular and in the air conditioned lodge, the cake walk was constant all afternoon. The fire trucks were kept busy as children piled into the driver’s seat and tried on the big helmet.
By the end of the day, the watermelons were sliced and kids all shared in their tasteful sweetness. The Dragons Club, who sponsored the afternoon event, pulled the lucky ticket for the girl’s bike and it was won by Alexis Richardson of Brookville. Alexis said she never had ridden a bike before but was riding it all around the parking lot by the end of the afternoon. The boy’s bike was won by kindergartener Gabe Staker of West Alexandria, who will soon be a Lakengren resident. These were two happy kids. Congratulations to the Dragons on this annual summer event.
Applications Requested
A reminder from the LWA and LPOA offices they are still seeking applications to become a trustee of the Lakengren Water Authority or a trustee of the Lakengren Property Owners Association. Candidate forms were published within the last two editions of The Viking and are available on the LPOA and LWA website. Complete forms may be dropped off at the guard house, the LPOA office, or the LWA office.
Women’s Club News
There were over 25 different casseroles and desserts spread upon tables within the Marina Club House on August 5 for the Annual LWC Indoor Picnic. No one can ever say Lakengren does not have the best cooks ever. Several ladies came early for the pontoon boat ride provided by Bob Stoner.
Following several trips around the food tables, the business at hand was discussed. President Jan Weaver shared about their next meeting on September 2nd. All are to meet at the Lodge by 11:30 a.m. to carpool to the Allen & Adaline Garber House & Nature Center, 9691 SR 503 north of Lewisburg. Those attending should bring a sack lunch and their beverage to be enjoyed at the shelter adjacent to the historical farmhouse. Brenda Mezz will be sharing some of her family history about the farm and explain the artifacts under its roof.
Cheryl Taylor announced the Women’s Club is holding a boutique on the first day of the Community Garage Sales (September 10-12). Donations are being accepted of fall and winter clothing and accessories. A bake sale will also take place on this date of September 10, at the Marina Club House. Clothing items may be brought for the sale on September 9.
Concerts Coming Up
A & E Committee reports there are three more summer concerts remaining. Billy & Charles, the old school rockers, will perform at the Marina Shelter at 7 p.m. on Aug. 13. Music described as “Americana,” will be performed by Angela Combs & Dave Cornett on Aug. 27. Equilibrium, a Power Trio Mix will perform on Sept. 10, which is the last concert of the season.
