The Village of Lewisburg's holiday refuse pick-up schedule is as follows: the week of Thanksgiving, refuse normally picked up on Thursday will be picked up on Friday, Nov. 27. The week of Christmas, refuse will be picked up on the usual days. Thursday pick-up will be done on Thursday, Dec. 24.
PERI meeting Dec. 1
The Preble Chapter of the Public Employee Retirees, Inc. (PERI) will have its bi-monthly meeting Tuesday, Dec. 1, at 11:30 a.m. at the KFC restaurant, 1200 N. Barron St., Eaton. All retired public employees are welcome to attend the informational meeting. A business meeting and program will follow lunch. Reservations are not required.
Cabbage Patch project
The Lewisburg Cabbage Patch Adopt a Family for Christmas project provides gifts of food for families living within the Tri-County North Local School District. The application deadline is being extended to Friday, Dec. 4. Call (937) 962-2741 to sign up for Cabbage Patch. Food packages for registered families can be picked up at Trinity Lutheran Church, 511 N. Commerce St., Lewisburg, on Wednesday, Dec. 16, from 5-8 p.m. A free supper will also be available from 5-7 p.m.
Boehner's "open door" locations
Congressman John Boehner has announced times and locations for the 8th District "open door" program on Thursday, Dec. 3. Members of Boehner's congressional staff will be available to hear concerns, offer opinions on government spending, health care reform and other key issues. The schedule is:
11 a.m., Lewisburg Village Offices, 116 S. Commerce St., Lewisburg.
Noon, Preble County Council on Aging, 800 E. St. Clair St., Eaton.
1:30 p.m. Camden Village Offices, 56 N. Main St., Camden.
Benefit spaghetti dinner
A spaghetti dinner, to benefit the family of the late Preble County Deputy Sheriff Mike Thornsberry, will be held Saturday, Dec. 5, at National Trail School. Serving will be from 4-7 p.m. The cost will be $10 for adults, $5 for children age 10 and under, and free to children under 3. The public is invited.
Sr. citizen luncheon at TCN
Tri-County North Elementary School is pleased to announce the 2009-2010 senior citizen holiday luncheon will be Thursday, Dec. 3, at 12:30 p.m., in the Tri-County North High School/Middle School cafeteria. The luncheon is hosted by the Tri-County North Local School District and supported by the Lewisburg Chamber of Commerce.
The meal will be served by the TCN cafeteria staff and the TCN FFA students. Entertainment will be provided by the music department. All senior citizens in the Tri-County North School District are invited to attend the luncheon. There is no charge.

Ag Society board meeting
The Preble County Agricultural Society will have its next regular board meeting on Thursday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. at Bruner Arena on the fairgrounds
Chicago shopping trip
Adult residents are invited to join in on a fun holiday shopping trip via deluxe motorcoach to Chicago, Ill., on Saturday, Dec. 5. Comfort stops will be made every two hours en route to Chicago and on the way home. The downtown drop-off location is just around the corner from Water Tower Place on North Michigan Avenue - "The Magnificent Mile."
A box lunch will be served on the motorcoach, enabling everyone to begin shopping immediately upon arrival in Chicago. To make it convenient for Richmond area travelers, there will be a pick-up location at the Petro Iron Skillet Restaurant (Interstate 70 and U.S. 40, on the east side of Richmond). The cost is $63 per person.

Breakfast with Santa
Breakfast with Santa, in its 10th year, is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 5, at 9 a.m. in the Twin Valley South School commons, West Alexandria. The event is sponsored by the Olde-Fashioned Christmas Committee. The cost will be $4.25 each for a full breakfast, which includes bacon, eggs, cinnamon rolls, coffee, juice or milk. Children will sit on Santa's lap after breakfast and door prizes will be given. The committee will offer hand-painted ornaments again this year.

No Thanksgiving trash delays
The City of Eaton advises refuse customers there will be no trash delays the week of Thanksgiving. Residents are reminded to set out their refuse the night before their scheduled pick-up day.
PC Room hours to change
The Preble County District Library announces a change in hours for the Preble County Room. Due to the low attendance and budget constraints, beginning in January 2010, the Preble County Room will no longer be open on Thursday evenings. The new Thursday hours will be 10 a.m.-5 p.m. All other PC Room open times remain the same.
White Christmas Nov. 27
Downtown Eaton, Inc. reminds everyone about the annual "White Christmas" celebration to be held Friday evening, Nov. 27, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Preble County Courthouse. In its 21st year, "White Christmas" fills the air with music from the Eaton Community Schools' second graders and the Eaton High School Band, as well as the Eaton Area Community Chorus. Topping off the evening will be a visit from Santa Claus.
Don't forget to sign up for door prizes at local businesses and join the festivities to help kick off the holiday season in Eaton.
Road closure
Beginning Monday, Oct. 26, Camden Road/mailbox numbers 6461-6624 will be closed between U.S. 127 nd Gasper-Somers Road for approximately five weeks for a full bridge replacement. Stay updated on this closure by viewing the website at www.prebeng.org.
Preble Shawnee Ledger
Patty Carter, lifelong member of the Preble Shawnee School District, will compile a scrapbook of student activities for the 2009-2010 school year. The scrapbook, Preble Shawnee Ledger, will contain student activities from school, community and church. All K-12 grades will be involved.
The ledger will document these activities chronologically by month. The first entry of this year's ledger will be activities that students took part in during July 2009 (4th of July parade, summer camp, scouts, sports, church activities, etc.), August (fair, 4-H club, sports, extracurricular, etc.), September (Pork Festival as well as the above-mentioned activities). Carter is asking parents, grandparents, students, teachers and community members to bring/send information about student activities to the schools. The information can be given to librarians and secretaries at the three Shawnee buildings.
New honor program
Eaton Middle School will pilot a new honor society program for the 2009-10 school year. This pilot program will support and acknowledge students who exhibit scholarship, character, leadership, citizenship and community service.
For a student to be eligible, he/she must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0. Students who meet this initial eligibility will receive an application at the end of March. This application will request additional information regarding character, leadership, citizenship and community service qualities the student has exhibited.
Applications will then be evaluated by a faculty council. Students granted acceptance into this honor society will receive notification and an induction ceremony will occur in May. Fees to increase
Effective July 1, fees for electronic background checks increased, according to the Preble County Sheriff's Office. The new rates are: BCI Webcheck, $40; FBI Webcheck, $40; BCI/FBI Webcheck, $70.
The sheriff's office accepts cash and money orders as payment. Personal checks are not accepted. Fees charged by the state of Ohio increased on July 1. Contact the sheriff's office at (937) 456-6301 with questions.
