‘Impressions of Oxford in Watercolor’

OXFORD – The Oxford Community Arts Center will be hosting a special Second Friday Very Merry Mix & Mingle event on Friday, Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. The evening will feature a new exhibit from painter Howard Krauss, “ Impressions of Oxford in Watercolor.”

Krauss, who teaches watercolor classes at the Oxford Community Arts Center, grew up in Brooklyn, New York. His close proximity to Brooklyn’s art museum inspired an early infatuation with the work of artists like Salvador Dali, Vincent Van Gogh, Winslow Homer and Grant Wood. Krauss, who also teaches painting classes on cruise ships and the Hamilton Hobby Lobby, recalls creating art a very young age.

Nature has always been a primary focus of his work. Although, because of the medium, Krauss often paints quickly, the process of contemplation that goes into his work takes much longer.

“Many of the paintings that I consider ‘finished’ have taken up to two or three years of contemplation before putting brush to paper,” Krauss said. “Most of that time was spent in drawing and redrawing and thinking about the painting’s composition and value scheme. Once I am satisfied with this, I usually paint very fast.”

This Second Friday event, sponsored by The Elms Hotel, will be shorter than most Second Friday gatherings, but patrons will have the opportunity to attend the Songs of the Season holiday concert, which will be held at the OCAC that night, Dec. 9, starting at 7 p.m. Admission to the concert is $10 for adult, $5 for children and free for children under six. The show will feature musical performances from some of your favorite Oxford musicians.

The Oxford Community Art Center is located on 10 S. College Avenue, in Oxford. For additional information contact the Art Center at [email protected] or 513-524-8506, or visit the website www.oxarts.org.
