PREBLE COUNTY — A Preble County child died last weekend after following into a pool on a family’s property.

On Sunday, April 16, at approximately 10:25 a.m., the Preble County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call from a resident in the 4000 block of Ohio 503 North, advising that a 3-year-old child had fallen into a pool on the property, according to Sheriff Mike Simpson.

“The child was reported to not be breathing and CPR was being performed,” Simpson said in a press release Monday.

Lewisburg Fire & EMS and Preble County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene. “The child was immediately transported to Kettering’s Preble ER, where he was pronounced dead,” Simpson said.

“Our initial investigation indicates that the child was two-years-old and was able to exit the house without the knowledge of the parents or the other children inside the house,” Simpson said. “The child is believed to have been unaccounted for, for approximately 30 minutes before the child’s mother found the child in the above-ground pool. The parents removed the child and immediately began CPR.”

The child was transferred to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office where an autopsy was scheduled to be performed Monday, Simpson said.

The case remained under investigation by the Preble County Sheriff’s Office and the Preble County Coroner’s Office at press time.
