Relay for life this weekend

EATON — Preble County’s Relay for Life will be held on Saturday, June 10, from 3 p.m. until midnight at the Preble County Fairgrounds. Relay For Life is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Relay is staffed and coordinated by volunteers in more than 5,200 communities and 27 countries. Volunteers give of their time and effort because they believe it’s time to take action against cancer.

Preble County’s theme this year is Passport to Hope. The day will begin with the Survivor Lunch at 1:30 p.m. The official event begins at 3 p.m. with the National Anthem and prayer, then a guest speaker.

Following the opening speech, the survivors will do the first lap around the track and then the caregivers will join them for the second lap. After that, anyone who wants to walk may join in.

The luminaria ceremony will start at dark, around 10 p.m.

Each team tries to have someone walking on the track all of the time. Teams will have their own fundraisers, such as games, to make money for cancer research.

All of the money collected goes to the American Cancer Society.

Anyone who wants to create a team of their own or just wants to come and join in is more than welcome. Everyone is invited to help fight cancer. If interested, contact Darian Rader at 937-733-9534.
