EATON — Kettering Health Network invites the public to celebrate Independence Day with music, food and fireworks. The Boom-n-Blast Independence Day celebration is being held on Sunday, June 25 from 6-9 p.m. at the Preble County Medical Center, located at 450 Washington-Jackson Road in Eaton.

The Preble County Medical Center is accredited through Grandview Medical Center, a part of Kettering Health Network.

The old-fashioned patriotic celebration features free popcorn and ice cream. Buckeye Jake’s and Chuck Wagon will offer food for purchase. Kids of all ages can enjoy a free carnival with inflatables, face painting and games. Local police, fire and EMS vehicles and a MedFlight helicopter will be on display. Free health screenings and giveaways are available and there will be drawings for prizes. K-99.1FM will provide music and broadcast live.

At 7 p.m. the sister duo Adelee & Gentry will take the stage. They have been singing and performing in and around their hometown of West Alexandria with a unique blend of folk and pop music for the past five years.

The event will be capped off with a fireworks display at Seven Mile Park starting at dark. Spectators are encouraged to bring their own chairs.

Preble County Smokeout

The Preble County Smokeout will be held Friday and Saturday, June 23-24, at the Preble County Fairgrounds. Friday’s pull is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., with gates opening at 4 p.m. Saturday’s activities will begin at 9 a.m. with Dirt Flat Drags and pulling is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

Ole Fashioned Jamboree

Come to the West Alexandria Ole Fashioned Jamboree this Friday, June 23 from 4-11 p.m. and Saturday, June 24 from 2-11 p.m. Arrive at Peace Park for rides, food, games and more! Wrist Band Special Vouchers will be pre-sold for $10 at the Farmers Markets on Thursday afternoons, The Pin Up Shoppe on Second Street, or from any Celebration Committee member. Wrist bands will be $15 during the Jamboree and are good from 4-10 p.m. on Friday and 3-10 p.m. on Saturday. All your festival favorites will be there, such as funnel cakes, fresh cut fries, cotton candy, candied or caramel apples, lemon shake-ups, snow cones, popcorn, walking tacos, nachos, pulled-pork, ribs and smoked chops! Come enjoy the day and support your community. Funds raised will contribute to the July 4 Fireworks and provide for new toys and repairs at Santa Villa, sponsored by the West Alexandria Celebration Committee.

Buckeye Bridge Bike Ride

This year is the 14th year for The Buckeye Bridge Ride. This ride will take place in Preble County visiting all eight of Preble County’s Covered Bridges. There are three different routes ranging from 18, 27, and 45 mile rides. These rides will take you on a scenic tour of Preble County. The Buckeye Bridge Ride is a full SAG with three stops.

The event will be held Saturday, June 24, starting with the timed event at 7 a.m. and pleasure rides having staggered starts from 7:15 a.m. to the last start time of 10 a.m.

Where: Buckeye Bridge Ride starting point will be at the Eaton Athletic & Wellness Stadium, 600 Hillcrest Drive, Eaton. (Next to the Eaton High School Football Field)

Consider doing the Buckeye Challenge!

Timed riders can deduct 10 minutes from their timed ride for each large buckeye they consume (and keep down) during their ride. A prize will be given for the rider with the best adjusted “buckeye time.”
