LEWISBURG — The Tri-County North Board of Education met on June 22.

Superintendent Bill Derringer discussed topics ranging from school lunches to building maintenance.

“One thing I do want to mention is, we have a document on there, we have to do this every year by law because we are a federal lunch program. I need to let you know that we do have nutritional standards that govern the types of food and beverages that we sell,” Derringer said. “Basically, I actually print this off every year. We don’t have vending machines in the classrooms. We know we’re not allowed to be selling pop in classrooms. There are guidelines that we utilize.”

He then thanked the board for their participation in the graduation service.

Derringer added that the new district truck is in and they will pick that up soon. The band trailer that will be pulled with said truck was ordered. The box truck that was previously used is in bad shape and the band trailer is thought to be a significant improvement.

Custodians are busy working on classrooms. The downstairs and upstairs elementary is completed. There will be painting under way in bathrooms soon. Doors will also be installed in the locker room bathrooms, to give students extra privacy. Handrails will also be painted.

The new president of the TCNEA is eighth grade teacher Beth Hough.

The following employees were recognized for perfect attendance for the 2016-2017 school year: Alycia Dudley, Rusty Hutchinson, and Barbara Kauffman.

In other business:

•A resolution to grant the superintendent and treasurer permission to apply for all state and federal grants was approved.

•Approval of the Ohio School plan through Hylant Administrative Service, LLC for liability, violence, and cyber coverage was given.

•A resolution to allow the superintendent to hire personnel pending approval by the Board of Education during the months of June, July, and August was approved.

•The board accepted a donation of $5,000 from Larry Bates for a scholarship fund.

•The board approved a 2017-2018 sixth grade trip to Dearborn, Michigan.

•Various employee contracts were accepted.

The next Tri-County North Board of Education meeting will be held on Monday, July 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the Verona United Methodist Church.
