New attraction coming to the fair

EATON — The Preble County Fair will host a new and exciting attraction this year — the Agriculture and Natural Resources Tent. Located beside the Produce Barn, in the previous location of the rest tent, the Agriculture and Natural Resources Tent will offer displays and activities to educate and entertain both adults and children.

The theme of this year’s display is Food. Stop by to learn how food is produced, where it comes from, who is raising it, and some fun food facts. Displays and activities will include information on healthy eating, a game to test your skill at identifying grains, an up close and personal look at a few Preble County farmers, a map of local land enrolled in land trust, ideas for recycling and food composting, what’s in store for this year’s Pork Festival, and much more.

The Agriculture and Natural Resources Tent will offer more than just educational displays. Picnic tables, drinking water, games, freebies, and prize giveaways will also be available. Activities for children will be held at 2-5 p.m. each day. The organizations sponsoring the activities as well as planned topics are as follows:

Saturday, July 29 — Preble Soil and Water Conservation District: Pollinators and Balloon Animals

Sunday, July 30 — Preble County Farm Bureau: Farm Equipment Safety and Agricultural Fiber Production

Monday, July 31 — Three Valley Conservation Trust: Pollinators and Food Crafts

Tuesday, Aug. 1 — United States Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency: Wheat from Field to Kitchen

Wednesday, Aug. 2 — OSU Extension & Preble County 4-H: Healthy Snacks and My Plate Activities

Thursday, Aug. 3 — Pork Festival: Pork Activity

Friday, Aug. 4 — Preble County Solid Waste District: Recycling

As you’re browsing the fairgrounds, keep an eye out for large question mark posters. These posters are part of a fun scavenger hunt. Complete the hunt and get a prize! In addition, visitors to the tent will be able to enter to win one of several large prizes, so make sure you get entered to win.

Stop by the Agriculture and Natural Resources Tent and join in the fun! Giveaways and activities will change daily, so stop in often!
