PS BOE meeting affected by power outage

CAMDEN — The Thursday, July 13, Preble Shawnee Board of Education meeting was moved to the high school media center due to a storm and a power outage at the Board of Education office.

During the meeting, the board held its second reading of Policy 2464, which is the district’s Gifted Student policy.

Superintendent Matt Bishop explained, “We have to have one on file, but we don’t service gifted, all we do is test it.If it ever gets to the point where we service gifted, we’ll have to look at [the contract]. Each time a student is given a MAP test, we check their scores. We send a letter talking about our policy and how we don’t service it.”

As for the policy itself, Bishop explained it stayed the same, but they had to make small “housekeeping” changes to keep the school compliant with regulations.

He further noted, when he came in last year, he looked at servicing gifted students, but there were too many requirements that would require professional help.

“I think it’s definitely a goal,” Bishop added.

The following one-year teacher contracts were approved:

•Intervention Specialist Sherry Babb

•Intervention Specialist Zack Janson

•Pre-school teacher Shelly Cummins

In other business:

•The board approved Jaime Ranly’s change in title from Resident Educator Director and Curriculum Specialist to Curriculum Director. They also amended the number of contract days from 210 to 223.

•The board approved a modification to the administrative salary scale to place the Director of Curriculum in the same column as Elementary Principal.

•The board approved the resignation of Intervention Specialist Rachael Wolf, due to the end of contract year.

The Preble Shawnee Board of Education will meet next on Thursday, Aug. 10, at 6 p.m. This meeting should be held, as normal, in the PS Board of Education office.
