Suicide prevention walk planned

PREBLE COUNTY — Suicide is a leading cause of death for young people. It causes unspeakable pain for loved ones and is a tragedy that can be prevented.

Terri Hundley, a past student at National Trail High School, lost her grandfather and a friend to suicide. She started “Walk To Remember, Walk For Hope,” a suicide awareness walk, to help with prevention efforts. The walk is made possible by a collaborative effort of the Preble County Suicide Coalition, the Preble County Mental Health & Recovery Board, individuals, and businesses.

This year the walk will be held on Saturday, Sept. 9, at Seven Mile Park from 7-9 p.m. Seven Mile Park is located on Park Ave. between Washington-Jackson Road and Lexington Road in Eaton. For more information on the walk, call 937-456-6827.

There are risk factors and warning signs for suicide that, once observed, need to be taken seriously. It is imperative to get help for those who need it. For more information on risk factors and warning signs call 800-273-8255 or visit: suicidepreventionlifeline.org.

Help prevent suicide — there’s so much to live for.
