Commissioners appoint JFS council members

EATON — The Preble County Commissioners approved the appointments of Alexa Joyce and Keelie Gustin to positions left open on the Family & Children First Council and Child Abuse and Neglect Regional Prevention Council due to resignations. Commissioners also noted receipt of the resignations during their meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 30.

Commissioners noted receipt of a letter of resignation from Amanda Kopf with the Family & Children First Council (FCFC).

According to their web page, Preble County’s FCFC exists to see that “a seamless system of care exists to enhance the well being of Ohio’s families and children. By partnering with state and our local agencies, we engage and empower families; share accountability; build community capacity; and coordinate systems and services.”

Commissioners also noted receipt of a letter of resignation from Rebecah Sorrell from the Child Abuse and Child Neglect Regional Prevention Council. They approved the appointment of Gustin to the council.

Preble County belongs to the Western Ohio Regional Prevention Council. According to Job and Family Services, county commissioners are allowed to appoint two members per county.

The council is managed by a non-voting prevention coordinator, selected through a competitive process, who will: appoint a non-voting chairperson and work with the chairperson to convene and provide administrative support for meetings. Members are county prevention specialists.

Their duties include:

•Develop needs assessments.

•Establish standing work groups.

•Design a regional prevention plan.

•Assist and guide the plan’s implementation.

•Assist with data collection and reporting.
