PS preparing for emergencies

CAMDEN — Preble Shawnee Local Schools recently hosted a successful active shooter table top exercise, but plans on conducting a full-size drill in the next couple years.

During his report at the PS Board of Education meeting on Thursday, Oct. 12, Superintendent Dr. Matt Bishop informed the board they had run through evacuations plans for all schools in the district.

He hopes to involve staff and students in any future drills, even though only the leadership team is required.

He also updated the board on the numerous academic improvements the district is making.

“We had a district leadership team and we had updates on some successful programs we have going,” he said. “We implemented our math program for grades five through eight, which is called ALEKS. We’re seeing success with that.

“Then there’s eSpark, which is the language arts and math software program that we received the donation for. That was an anonymous donor and we are very appreciative. We are seeing gains in those areas.”

Bishop will be recognizing several students for sports-related achievements at the next board meeting, to be held on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 6 p.m. in the board office.
