LEWISBURG — Tri-County North Local Schools will be participating in suicide prevention training following Thanksgiving break. According to middle and high school principal Joe Hoelzle, the training will be peer-led and involve TCN students along with students from other districts.

During the Tri-County North Board of Education meeting held on Monday, Nov. 20, Hoelzle discussed the upcoming training.

“They will go around our English classes, talking to our kids about suicide prevention,” he said.

He also talked about his excitement regarding both the book fair and parent teacher conferences. He shared, there were many meetings that night, bringing more parents to the conferences than they would normally see.

K-5 Principal Joe Finkbine also discussed book fair and the importance he believes it holds.

“I wanted to share how thankful I am to be able to work with the staff as we did our book fair,” he added. “It looked like the wild west back in the olden days with cowboy hats and different themes before the book fair. It was able to get kids excited about the book fair and about reading in general.”

He added, the school is already halfway through its second quarter. According to Finkbine, this means the elementary will begin its MAP testing soon. The results will be compared to the last results, taken at the beginning of the school year. This will allow the elementary staff to review the data and adjust as needed.

Superintendent William Derringer shared, the annual Senior Citizen Luncheon is coming up on Dec. 15 in the high school cafeteria at 12:30 p.m. The Lewisburg Chamber of Commerce has donated $500 to offset the price of the meal. All of the senior citizens in attendance leave with a door prize.

The board also approved a resolution to adopt a gifted policy and plan for identification and service of gifted children.

Tri-County North Board of Education will meet on Monday, Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the lecture room.
