Oxford celebrates the night before holiday festival

OXFORD — ‘Twas the Night Before Oxford’s Holiday Festival and all through the town people were scurrying to find holiday cheer.

The City of Oxford Chamber of Commerce put on their second annual ‘Twas the Night Before on Friday, Dec. 1. Previously called the Oxford Business Holiday Walk for 20 years, this event allowed businesses to open their doors and invite the public in with refreshments.

All while the open house was ongoing, in the Uptown Parks there was a fire pit where two Talawanda High School choirs were performing.

Also uptown was a display of Christmas trees. The Lions Club of Oxford donated five Christmas trees that were decorated in a contest by five different organizations. Those five trees will be donated to needy families that the Oxford Family Resource Center will decide through a drawing. The organization that wins the contest will receive a Traveling Grandma’s Tree that will be returned for next year’s prize.

According to Chamber President Kelli Riggs, this is a Chamber event that is meant to draw people out for shopping, while still having the community come together for a night of holiday fun and community service.

“Our goal is to get more people into our community to help the retailers and restaurants, but to also pull our community together for a night of fun,” Riggs said. “Next year, we are looking to make it bigger and do more decorating of trees, as a lot of people really enjoyed watching and participating in this, but we also had a lot ask if they could do it next year. I do believe we will be having more trees donated, decorated, and giving back.

“I would love to thank Tim Horton’s for donating coffee, Black Pony Kettle Corn for donating individual bags of kettle corn to pass out, Oxford Lions Club for donating our trees, Kiwanis Club of Oxford, Rotary of Oxford, MHMH/TriHealth Auxiliary, Masons/Easter Star Club, and MU Phi MU for donating their time to purchase all the decorations and decorating them.

“I would also like to thank Oxford Family Resource for placing these trees in the hands of families that needed them and Talawanda Choirs, the Chamber Singers and Fermata Nowhere for their performances. Thank you to all of our local businesses for their continued support of the Oxford Chamber and our community. Without the support and help from all of you, we could not have held such an amazing event.

“Attendance this year was great and way up from last year. By pulling together and helping each other, this community can work magic.”
