NEW PARIS — National Trail Athletic Director Frank Carr gave the board of education an update on the fall sports quarter during a meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 5.

“Fall season review puts some facts there about all of our teams. To start, the girls’ golf team finished second in the conference and advanced to the district tournament. That is only the second time National Trail girls golf team has advanced that far,” Carr said.

“Both cross country teams had outstanding years. The boys team won the CCC Championship for the third time in four years. The girls’ team was the runner-up. Both teams advanced to the Regional over in Troy. It was great to see how well we represented ourselves as athletes, but also as individuals. The team handled themselves in a way that was really special.”

As for football, Carr called the season “interesting.”

He said, “It is a season that we could have had one win or we could have had six wins, but it was a season that finished up in the rain against Covington. We were all disappointed that we were not able to convert that two point conversion to win that, but watching that was really something.”

He also recognized a number of individuals who won awards or made outstanding accomplishments during their seasons.

“We had 97 students participate — 56 boys and 41 girls. That is approximately a third of our student body,” he added. “You can see, below the roster numbers. The Cross County Conference gives, every season, an academic award. That award goes to letter winners who received a 3.5 GPA during that academic season that they are competing.

“Of our 81 letter winners, 57 percent (46) students received the CCC academic award. I think that shows that our student athletes are really student athletes.”
