EATON — During a meeting on Monday, Dec. 18, Eaton City Council honored the Eaton High School Cross Country Team and Coach Randy McKinney for outstanding athletic achievements

Mayor Gary Wagner called the team members up individually to be recognized. The team consists of: Alex McCarty, Cole Bulach, Tanner Titkemeyer, Alex Newport, Steven Cottle, Todd Coates, Jack Bortel, Dylan Suding, LeKendric Brown, and Austin Kopf.

“I want to congratulate you on a great year and what you did at State,” Wagner said, before reading his proclamation of recognition.

The proclamation stated the boys qualified to participate in the 89th annual OHSAA Boys State Championship in November, where they placed 17th overall in the state.

“Whereas, the essence in which you represented yourself, your families, your school, and your community should be commended,” Wagner read.

He then recognized Coach McKinney for being named Southwestern Buckeye League Coach of the Year.

“This is a team that the season started out and we had some high goals. We’ve had a lot of teams with high goals that have fallen short, but this group did what they needed to do to get there,” McKinney said.

“That was a lot of fun this year. Just when I wasn’t quite sure, they would change the way they were racing. They went from a group of individuals to a true team, and that was the difference in the end. They had a really fun season.

“I want to thank the City of Eaton, because you provide the opportunity for us to accomplish what we did. Every school who comes here marvels at what we have here. We really appreciate the city and all you do for us.”
