LEWISBURG — “Abraham Lincoln,” 16th President of the United States of America, visited Lewisburg last weekend to celebrate the village’s 200th birthday. Impersonator Danny Russel put on two different shows on Saturday, Feb. 17 at the Lewisburg Community Center.

Bicentennial Committee Entertainment Chairperson Mark Madigan explained the committee has an event planned every month to celebrate the bicentennial. Then, in September, the yearlong celebration will finish with a three day festival celebrating the history of the town.

“The events aren’t all Lewisburg specific, and we chose Lincoln for its historic value, but there is a little tie to Mr. Lincoln and Lewisburg. During his travels, Mr. Lincoln did spend the night in town up on Old National Trail,” Madigan said.

“We had a great turn out on Saturday. Around 250 total in attendance for the two shows. The response was very positive and we will be bringing Danny Russel back for our bicentennial celebration in September, where he will be portraying Daniel Boone.”

The year of events kicked off in January with a birthday party held on New Years Eve. Their next monthly even is a Euchre party on Saturday, March 17 at the Community Building.
