GRATIS — According to village staff, the Village of Gratis Police Department should be finished moving into its new building soon. During a council meeting held on Thursday, Feb. 15, the department reported there are still a few more lockers and filing cabinets to be moved, but the building is coming along. They are considering hosting an open house when the department does finish the moving process.

The Mayor’s Court Report for January shows a total of $895 raised.

•The state received $179.

•Eaton received $6

•Gratis received $710 dollars.

Mike Bruns with Mote and Associations provided council an update on Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding. He reported the Preble County Commissioners held the first public hearing, which was not mandatory, and held a second meeting on Friday, Feb 16, that was mandatory.

Bruns needed to know what projects the council might be interested in for the next three years before attending that meeting on their behalf. Applications are due on March 2.

“We need to make a list for the CDBG planning meeting. Basically, they just want you to have any project you are interested on the list. If there are any projects out there you are even thinking about, it is better to have them on the list then to not,” Bruns said. “We gave a list of four or five items that we thought might be on that list.”

He proceeded to brainstorm with council on potential projects. The list they came up with includes: East Street Improvements for two blocks, Harrison Street Improvements from Ohio 725 to Ohio 503, water reading equipment, downtown street lights, Waste Water Lift Station and Lift Station Upgrades, Portable Generator, Geeding Street Bridge, Ada Doty Street Storm Outlet.

Having these projects on their lists does not guarantee that the village will get funding for all of them, but in order to apply for funding, potential projects must be on the list.

Bruns also shared that Ada Doty Street improvements are basically completed, they are simply waiting for better weather to do seeding and mulching.

The village council will meet again on Thursday, March 1, at 7 p.m. in the municipal offices.
