EATON — October was fire prevention month.

As part of the education on fire safety and prevention, the Eaton Fire Department traveled around to local schools, putting on a puppet show with an emphasis on the importance of smoke detectors. They also send the students home with a few fun activities during the festivities.

“We try to challenge the kids and give them something fun to do, send them home with packets of information, coloring projects, etc.,” said Eaton Fire Chief Jack Royer. “But we also have a coloring contest.”

It’s the department’s fourth annual coloring contest and Royer – with the help of his puppets Sparky the Firedog and Danny the Dragon – handed out the 2015 contest winners during the city council meeting on Monday, Nov. 16. Each winner received a $5 gift card to McDonald’s.

Here are the winners:

Kindergarten – Avery Bleil

First Grade – Addison Hopkins

Second Grade – Savana Bulach

Third Grade – Anna Irwin

Fourth Grade – Madison Edwards

Fifth Grade – Coltan James

Grand Prize Winner – Alexia James (fourth grade)

Winners of the coloring contest line up after being presented with a certificate and a $5 McDonald’s gift card during the November city council meeting on Monday, Nov. 16.
