Emergency Cold Shelter available

EATON — Home Is The Foundation, in conjunction with the Preble County Continuum of Care (CoC) has announced the development of an Emergency Cold Weather Procedure for people seeking refuge from the cold to include those with a heating crisis and/or without shelter.

Beginning Dec. 17, the emergency cold shelter is available in the evenings when the temperature or wind chill is expected to be 20 degrees or below and will close the following morning. If the forecast calls for temperatures below freezing, 32 degrees, but not 20 degrees, cold shelter may be available if we have willing volunteers.

Between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. call Home Is The Foundation at 937-472-0500 for information, registration, and/or transportation. For after-hours entries, call Toni Morgan at 937-733-4305 or contact local law enforcement.

A number of community and faith-based organizations are working together to implement the Emergency Cold Weather Procedure. Volunteers are needed to assist with providing meals, serving, supervision and clean-up. Orientation will be provided as necessary. Anyone wanting to volunteer or needing additional information may call Home Is The Foundation at 937-472-0500.
