EATON —The Preble County Commissioners met with Preble County Fairgrounds Manager James Mays on Wednesday, Dec. 23.

Mays reported “90 percent” of painting and metal work has been completed on the fairgrounds renovations.

Mays said structural repairs to the grandstands are the only major work remaining to be done at the fairgrounds before winter.

Restrooms, two other barns and painting of the grandstands will be on hold until the spring, according to Mays.

Mays also reported 50 horses are currently being housed on the fairgrounds, compared to just 15 horses being kept at the grounds in spring of 2014.

Mays also spoke to commissioners about the Eatonic Music Festival which is expected to be held at the fairgrounds on Friday, Sept 2 through Sunday, Sept. 4, the same weekend as last year.

Mays reported the fair board is currently negotiating with Manfred Schreyer to cover insurance for buildings on the grounds for 2016.The insurance cost was $4,512.8 in 2015.

The rest of the contract between the Fair Board and music festival is expected to remain the same.

Commissioners also met with Mark Goeke to discuss timber at the Preble County Landfill.

Goeke will work with the county to remove timber from areas at the landfill. He will be the contractor for the project for the charge of 12 percent of profit made from the wood or $85 per hour if the timber does not sell.

Goeke will have 365 days to complete the project if approved.

Commissioners were also informed by clerk Connie Crowell the expected “Cadillac tax” coming to insurance costs will not arrive until 2020.

The board also passed Resolution 718 requesting fund approval from the auditor of the state to establish a line for “Preble County Sewer District #2 treatment plants and collection system repair and replacement.”

Preble County Commissioners meet every Monday and Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the Preble County Courthouse.
