NEW PARIS — As of Monday, Nov. 4, the New Paris Park Foundation had a balance of $45,071.09, after receiving a generous donation of $20,000. The total includes both a Dayton Foundation account and the account through the Village of New Paris.

New Paris Park Foundation members Chelle Rutherford and Nicole Wood presented their financials and plans to the New Paris Village Council during a meeting on Monday, Nov. 4.

Rutherford began the presentation by sharing with council the foundation recently partnered with the Dayton Foundation. The New Paris Park Foundation is now under the “umbrella” of the Dayton Foundation and recently deposited their funds from their poker run.

Rutherford issued an apology from the New Paris Park Foundation to the New Paris Council regarding a past joint work session.

“We should have handled things a little differently, but it was a learning process for all of us, from our side and I’m sure from your side too. Being that, on our side, we weren’t sure what was accepted from us from you guys. On the other side, you guys probably weren’t sure what we were doing. That was step one of us trying to bridge this and get us in a better working and cohesive partnership,” she said.

She added, New Paris Park Foundation will be working on bylaws during a special meeting. Once finished, they will be taking them to council for approval.

“As of yet, because we were just a group of citizens who were put together for this committee, none of us had the expertise of sitting on the boards. We are learning as we are growing, too. Some people get overly emotional, because they want things done and they want them done right now and sometimes they are not calm enough to see the picture and the long haul,” Rutherford said.

“We are going to make sure there is better communication between our group and the board. We are not trying to come in and butt heads. We want to come in and work together and have it be as smooth as possible. We don’t want to do anything you don’t want us to do either. We are working on that.”

Wood shared news of the large donation New Paris Park Foundation received through their Dayton Foundation account.
