EATON — The Eaton City Council received updates from City Manager Brad Collins during their regular meeting on Monday, Sept. 21.

Collins said they are still waiting to receive potential dates from Heritage Ohio for the Downtown Assessment Resource Team visit.

“They had their annual conference a week before last,” he said. “We’re still hoping to have a visit sometime here in October, check with some other area business owners to see what we have lined up.”

Manufacturers in Eaton are also looking to fill roles at this time.

“Recently we’ve heard from several of our manufacturers: Timken Steel, Neaton. Silfex, and Parker Hannifin. They are all currently hiring,” he said. “So, if you know anyone looking for a job, please help spread the message, and also check out preblecountycareers.com.”

Collins added that these are good paying jobs.

“For example, CNC operator. You have a GED, high school diploma, they will train you to be a CNC operator. So, there’s some good career opportunities out there.

Collins also said that the Downtown Eaton Inc. Car and Truck Show is back on Oct. 10 from 12-7 p.m.

“Downtown Eaton Inc. car show was cancelled last month,” Collins said. “They do hope to have a car and truck show on Oct. 10…Staff and safety services, we have no issue in that support.”

Mayor Gary Wagner asked what happens if Preble County rises to a Level 3 again, which caused the cancellation of the car show previously.

“Organizationally, DEI would make that call the day of,” Collins said. “Of course, we work closely with the police and fire and certainly ask our opinions. I would assume we’ll just want to plan forward with Oct. 10, and then if something happens on Oct. 9, we’ll have to do the round robin phone calls and see what’s the best plan of action.”
