Milford Twp. meeting

A special meeting of the Milford Township Trustees has been scheduled for Aug. 3, at 4 p.m. at the Township Office, 1414 Oxford Trenton Road, Oxford. The purpose of the meeting is to approve the resolution for the renewal fire levy to be put on the ballot on the Nov. 8, election and any other business that may come before the trustees.

Ohio SoS office hours

Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted has announced his office’s August regional office hours. Regional liaisons for the Secretary of State’s office will be in Preble County, at the Preble County District Library Administration Resource Center in Eaton, on Thursday, Aug. 25, from 2-4 p.m. The purpose of open office hours is to give local residents an opportunity to learn more about, and stay connected with, the Secretary of State’s office in an informal and accessible setting.

PCESC Governing Board

The August regular monthly meeting of the Preble County Educational Service Center Governing Board scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 5:30 p.m. has been changed to Wednesday, Aug. 31 at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Preble County Educational Service Center Conference Room, 597 Hillcrest Drive, Eaton.

Road closing

Beginning Monday, Aug. 1, Preble County Road between box #2915 and Amity Road is closed for approximately five weeks for a full bridge replacement. No traffic will be permitted.

Legion yard sale space

The American Legion Post 665, in West Manchester, has spots open for the U.S. 127 Yard Sale, Aug. 4-7. Cost is $25 per space, with a deposit that is refundable when space is completely cleared and cleaned after the sale. There is no electricity provided to each spot, however needing to show something works, a Legion Member can assist with. Portable restrooms will be available, as well as food and drinks. Movie Night at PCHS

The Preble County Historical Society will host a back-to-school movie night at the Amphitheater on Friday, Aug. 12, at 9 p.m. The movie Zootopia will be projected on a screen at the Amphitheater at the Preble County Historical Society, 7693 Swartsel Road, Eaton. Admission for this event is free for everyone. Families from the entire community are encouraged to join and soak up one of the last nights of the summer while enjoying a good movie with the opportunity to purchase refreshments and popcorn provided by the Preble County Historical Society. Individuals attending should bring their own blankets or chairs and arrive before the movie starts at 9 p.m. to claim their spot at the Amphitheater. The movie night is weather dependent and will be postponed in the event of inclement weather. Gratis budget hearing

The Village of Gratis will hold the 2017 Tax Budget Hearing on Friday, Aug. 12, at 7 p.m. This hearing is open to the public, as we go through the Tax Budget Report for 2017. The hearing will be held at the Village Office located at 404 Harrison St., Gratis.

Pork Festival seeking parade entries

Entries are being accepted for the 2016 Annual Preble County Pork Festival Parade in Eaton. The parade commences at 10:30 a.m. (Ohio time) on Saturday, Sept. 17. Parade applications are available on the website at http://www.porkfestival.org. Go to the “Parade” link and scroll to the application. Applications are submitted directly from the website now (no paper to send in). Those in need of a paper application should contact Karen Hake at [email protected] or call 937-336-4116. Deadline for entry is Aug. 31.

SWD meetings

Upcoming 2016 Preble Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors meetings will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 16, and Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 7 a.m. at the office, 1651 N. Barron St., Eaton. Note: these are date changes from the regular meeting dates. Meetings are open to the public. Call the office at 937-456-5159 for more information.

TVS registrations

Twin Valley South High School/Middle School office is open from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. The first day of school for all students will be Wednesday, Aug. 17. Students who are new to the district may register beginning Wednesday, Aug. 3. To register a new student, parents need to bring a birth certificate, medical records, social security number, two proof of residency documents, and custody papers if applicable. For high school students, call the school at 937-839-4693 to schedule an appointment. High school students may pick up schedules beginning Wednesday, Aug. 3. Schedule changes may be made through Tuesday, Aug. 9.

PCSRCG meeting

The Preble County Schools Regional Council of Government will be meeting on Monday, Sept. 12, at 8 a.m., the Preble County Educational Service Center located on 597 Hillcrest Drive, Eaton. The purpose of this meeting is to review insurcance programs and any other business that need to be brought before COG at that time.

Eaton Farmers Market

The Eaton Early Bird Farmers Market will be open at the intersection of Somers and N. Barron Streets every Saturday through mid-September. Hours of operation at 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The market will offer fresh vegetables and fruit, farm fresh eggs, grass-fed beef, homemade candies and kettle corn, and fresh baked goods such as rolls, cakes, pies, breads, cookies, and homemade noodles. Greenhouse plants, fresh cut flowers, woven rugs, and other handmade crafts will also be available.

OSU Extension Safe Food Handler Level 1 training

There will be a Safe Food Handler, Level 1 training on Friday, Aug. 12, and Oct. 14, from 1-5 p.m., at The Ohio State University Extension Office on the Montgomery County Fairgrounds, 1001 S. Main Street, Dayton. Safe Food Handler empowers employees as they learn how food becomes unsafe and their role in keeping food safe. ServSafe® is the industry standard for food safety education. Participants receive the ServSafe® Food Handler Guide and a certificate of completion. This class is for employees who prepare and serve food whether that is in a church, food pantry, food bank, child care center, home child care, Head Start, restaurant, or festival volunteers. Upon completion of this 4-hour course, the employee will receive a certificate of completion. Early childhood employees will receive an ODJFS in-service form.
