OXFORD – Local hair salon Luna Blu will be hosting it’s annual Halloween-themed charity 1K and 5K on Sunday, Oct. 9, beginning at 1 p.m.

Early registration for the event ends on Thursday, Oct. 6. Day-of registration is available, but has a price increase of $5. Teams are welcome at the event, but must register by the Thursday.

The run is a part of Luna Cares, which was established in 2010 “to directly support the financial needs of women and their families while undergoing treatment for cancer.”

The event will begin at 1 p.m. with a 1K for children ages 10 and under (an adult must be with a child under the age of 5). Treat stands will be set up along the 1K route so children can trick-or-treat as they run.

The 5K will follow the 1K, with a tentative time planned for 2 p.m.

To participate in the run you must be in costume. The run’s slogan asks, “Have you ever seen anyone run in costume?”

There will be a “costume after-party” following the 5K. It will include food sponsored by LaRosa’s and will have costume contests, door prizes, and music featured.

The event will take place in Oxford Community Park. Register early at LunaCares.com.
