Emergency cold shelter announced

EATON – Home Is The Foundation, in conjunction with the Preble County Continuum of Care (CoC) has announced the development of an Emergency Cold Weather Procedure and the opening of Cold Shelter for people seeking refuge from the cold. This includes those with a heating crisis and/or without shelter.

Beginning November 2016, the Emergency Cold Shelter will always be available when the temperature or wind chill is expected to be 20 degrees or below and will close the following morning. If the forecast calls for temperatures below freezing, 32 degrees, but not 20 degrees, cold shelter may be available if the agency has enough volunteers.

Anyone in need of cold shelter, should call Home Is The Foundation at 937-472-0500 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. for information, registration, and/or transportation. For after-hours entries, call Toni Morgan at 937-733-4305 or contact local law enforcement.

A number of community and faith-based organizations and individuals work tirelessly to implement the Emergency Cold Weather Procedure and provide cold shelter. Volunteers are needed to assist with serving, supervision, clean-up, etc. and donations are always welcome. Orientation will be provided as necessary. Anyone interested in volunteer and donation opportunities or needing additional information, including a list of needed supplies, may call Home Is The Foundation at 937-472-0500.
