Memorial Day Parade

The 2016 Memorial Day Parade in Eaton will be held on Monday, May 30, at 10 a.m., with line up at 9 a.m. between the Armory and the Red Mule. Anyone wishing to participate in the parade should contact Larry Showalter at 456-4091 or Stacey Wells at 513-801-6645. Parade participation should have a Memorial Day theme or agenda. Contact with the committee would help with the assignment of a spot in the parade lineup. The parade will be stopping at the Seven Mile Creek Bridge, then continuing on to Mound Hill Cemetery for the conclusion.

Memorial Day celebration

Preble County Honor Guard , under the command of Commander Phil Hurst, will be honoring their lost fellow commarads on May 22, at Castine Cemetery, and Wares Chapel. Castine Cemetery will start at 1 p.m. , with Wares Chapel following at 2 p.m. Names of fallen veterans will be read at each cemetery, and Pastor Laura Thomas will be the speaker. Troop and Pack 280 will also be assisting with the ceremony. Arcanum Middle School band will provide patriotic musical songs during the ceremony. The public is encouraged to bring a lounge chair and join the group in honoring our veterans. American Legion Post 215

American Legion Post 215, 1000 U.S. 35 West, Eaton, holds regular members meetings the second Monday of every month, at 7 p.m. Sons Squadron meeting is the second Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. Mexican Monday — Mexican food every Monday 5-8 p.m.

Chicken dinner first Friday every of month, $10, 6-8 p.m. Public welcome.

Marinated Pork Chop Dinner second Friday every month, $9, 6-8 p.m. Public welcome.

Hall available for public rentals, seating capacity 138. Call 937-456-5767 for details and reservations.

Thursday, June 9, the Dayton V.A. Mobile Clinic will be at the Post from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., doing hearing aid checks and cleanings. An outreach team will be with them as well as the Preble County Veterans Services representative, to answer questions.

James E. Ryan Post 322

Euchre night is Ladies Night every Wednesday at 7 p.m. There is a $5 entry fee, prizes, a 50/50 raffle and it is open to the public at James E. Ryan Post 322, 1477 Ohio 503 South.

Enjoy Old-time Country and Western music every Thursday from 1-4 p.m. with the Senior Fun Bunch. This is open to the public and includes coffee and snacks with no cover charge.

VFW Post 8066

The VFW 8066, 401 W. Lexington Rd., Eaton, holds it monthly meetings on the First Monday of each month. The Ladies Auxiliary meets the second Monday of the month; the Men’s Auxiliary meets the third Monday of the month. Wii bowling will be played at 7 p.m. on Thursdays. DAV meetings

Disabled American Veterans meets on the third Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. at the American Legion Post #322 at 1477 503 South in West Alexandria. Members are encouraged to attend. Veterans looking for a home legion are welcomed to come. Active duty and younger veterans are encouraged to become members as well.

PC Veterans Service ID Cards

Preble County Veteran Services is now offering honorably discharged veterans the opportunity to have a picture identification card. You may obtain your ID card at Veterans Services at no cost to you. You must bring a copy of your DD214 verifying character of discharge. For additional information you may contact Veterans Services at 937-456-6111.

“We Care” Program

In an effort to acknowledge the sacrifices of our local veterans and to promote spending within our own community, Preble County Veteran Services has launched a new program entitled “We Care”. Veteran Services will supply local honorably discharged veterans with an official “picture identification card” which would be presented to local businesses when making their purchases. The veteran would then receive a discount from the total cost of the purchase. We have sixteen businesses’ currently enrolled in the program. If your business would like to participate in this program, contact Veteran Services at 108 N. Barron St., Eaton.
