EATON — Kidz Korner, located at 138 North Barron Street in Eaton, is selling all of its clothing for $1. The shop specializes in consignment kids and baby clothes, targeted at rapidly-growing youth and the families who would benefit from cheap clothing.
While the clothing is $1, shoes and accessories run a little higher at $2-plus. Shoes are typically $2, while boots are $3. More than the clothing, but still extremely affordable, according to staff. Halloween costumes are running for $2.50.
The store also has toys and equipment, which are all different prices according to Terry Moore, the sister of the owner.
“We are a little shop, a consignment shop. We buy and sell clothing,” she said. “We’re trying to keep everything to where we are giving back to the community. The dollar a day is a new model we are implementing. My sister thought that since a lot of the community is low income and since there are so many foster families, we should make things easier for them.
“We know how hard it is, so my sister decided to change the prices. The change took effect some time last year. Everyone loves this. We’ve seen a lot of improvements.”
The store is closed on Thursdays and Sundays. The rest of the week the store typically opens at noon and closes at 5 p.m., except for Saturday when they open at 9 a.m. and close at noon.
Kidz Korner welcome people coming in to sell clothing, just as much as they welcome buyers. According to Moore, when buying clothing they look for stain-free and gently-used clothing. For toys they look for complete toys with no missing parts.
“I think a shop like Kidz Korner is good for the community, because people can come in here and get clothing for $1. There are no stains on them, some even have tags on them,” she added. “I think this is the best when kids are growing and you want to get secondhand clothing.
“All of us who own the store are Christians. The best verse is from Matthew 19:14 and it is ‘Let the little children come unto me.’ We just care about children.”
