Benefit Walk

The family of Brad and Kelli Wright will be holding a Walk/Run benefit on Sunday, Aug. 3 from 2-4 p.m. starting at Peace Park. The purpose is to raise money and awareness for the Arthrogryposis Organization in honor of their nephew, Owen. Arthrogryposis is a term used to describe a number of rare conditions characterized by stiff joints and abnormally developed muscles. Owen was born with Arthrogryposis and has been through surgeries, castings and braces, and has several therapy sessions weekly. Owen is one tough cookie! There is no pre-registration necessary. Monday, Aug. 4, the TVS HS Band will attend the Drum and Bugle Corps Show, Soaring Sounds in Centerville, Ohio. Students should meet at the school at 5:30 p.m., the show begins at 7 p.m. and we should return to school by 11:30 p.m.. Tickets are $12 and all marching band students should attend!

Full Band will rehearse on Tuesday and Thursday, Aug. 5 and 7 at 7 p.m.

American Legion

The Senior Fun Bunch will meet July 31 at American Legion Post 322, 1477 US 503 South. Old time Country and Western music is offered every Thursday from 1-4 p.m., coffee and snacks are provided and there is no cover charge. Featured Singers include Jack Fluty, Eddie Collett, Stoney Newman, Red King, Paul Boyd, Keith Brown, and Judy Lay. Guest singers welcome.

TVS Wee Panthers

Conditioning practice has begun for both JV and Varsity boys Wee Panthers. Conditioning will go from 6-8 p.m. on July 28- Aug 1 at Smith Street Park in West Alex. There are no drinking fountains at the park so make sure your child has water/Gatorade etc. Remember that physical forms are required before they can begin practice. We are in the process of getting One Call set up so we can send out a notification as well. If your child hasn’t yet, we need a copy of their birth certificate to keep. You can bring the copy to conditioning or scan and email to us at tvsweepanthers@yahoo.com.

Archives Open House

In recognition of Audrey Gilbert’s 39 years of service to the West Alexandria Archives, there will be an open house on Wednesday, Aug. 13 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the WA Library. Please come and share your stories and memories and help us thank her for all of her hard work and dedication to making sure our local history is not forgotten. Needs are ramen noodles, box mashed potatoes, egg noodles, peas, shampoo and toothpaste. The Foodbank is now accepting fresh garden produce and school supplies. You may contact the Foodbank at 839-1615. Hours are Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at St. John Church, 20 East South St. The first Sunday of each month, non-perishable donations can be brought to Salem and St. John Lutheran Churches.

St. John Lutheran

Aug. 24, 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran in Lewisburg – Participants from the mission trip to Booneville, Arkansas will be sharing stories about their service and faith adventures. Last year members of Trinity met at St. John for this joint service so this year St. John members will travel to Trinity in Lewisburg for this service. Trinity’s worship is at 10:30 a.m.. The service will be followed by a carry-in. We look forward to this morning of celebration and sharing.

Aug. 31, 10 a.m. Outdoor Worship is scheduled and this is also Labor Day Weekend. Come in your work clothes to celebrate God’s work in your “labor”. Worship will begin at 10 a.m. that morning with a picnic carry-in following.

Holden Evening Prayer Service will be Wednesday, Aug. 6 at 7:30 p.m. St. John Annual Ice Cream Social Saturday, Sept. 6 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Menu includes sandwiches, salads, soups, cake/pie and of course several varieties of yummy homemade ice cream all at reasonable prices. It would e sweet if you could join us for good food and fellowship!

Salem Evangelical Lutheran

Save the date! Salem’s Annual Ice Cream Social will be Aug. 23 from 4-7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall and will include drive-through service, available through the west side entrance. Featured are eight flavors of home-made ice cream and delicious home-made chicken and noodles, sandwiches, hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad and homemade cakes and pies. Social Outings of Salem (SOS) will have a Fun in the Sun Picnic at Carol Lowry’s home Saturday, Aug. 16. Bring a covered dish, sunscreen, lawn chairs, swimsuit and towels. We will be starting at 2 p.m. with boat rides and have dinner at 5 p.m.. Enjoy swimming, corn hole or just relax with friends. Our next outing for SOS will be “Christmas Belles” at the Brookville Theatre at 8 p.m. at a cost of $15 per person. Sign up by Aug.17. LYO Carwash Fundraiser will be at the church parking lot Aug. 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. We have planned a Canoe Trip for Aug. 9. Contact Lindsay Watson for information. Friends are always highly encouraged to attend with you! Remember to pick up a Permission to Travel/Emergency Medical form outside of the Youth Director’s office. This is required for anyone under the age of 18 to participate in LYO events.
