Eaton Book Sale

Get to the Eaton Branch Library’s book sale early for the best selection of books for adults, teens, and kids. There are no prices set; all sales are by donation only. Take what you like and donate as much as you can, as the proceeds go to fund programs at the Eaton Library.

The Eaton Branch is at 301 N. Barron St., and the sale will be from Saturday, Sept. 19 through Saturday, Sept. 26 during regular library hours:

Saturday, Sept. 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 20: library closed

Monday, Sept. 21 through Thursday, Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Friday and Saturday, Sept. 25 and 26 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Library Lego contests

Win awesome Lego prizes at the library! The West Elkton Branch is hosting a Lego competition for ages 5-12 on Thursday, Aug. 27 at 5:30 p.m. There will be three more Lego contests in September:

Novel Discussion Book/Movie Club

Join us at the Eaton Branch of Preble County District Library to discuss the book, “Eat, Pray, Love” by Elizabeth Gilbert. The book/movie discussion will be Thursday, August 27 at 6:30 p.m. The Novel Discussion movie night will be a week earlier, August 20 at 6:30 p.m.

Tween Filmmakers Workshop

Learn the art of filmmaking at your local library throughout September. Preble County District Library’s popular Tween Filmmakers Club (ages 8-12) is heading to the branch libraries. We’ll use iPads, Android devices, and computers to create sample films in the styles of stop-motion animation, Claymation, and additive drawing animation.

Eaton storytime registration

Registration begins Sept. 1 for the six-week sessions of storytime at the Eaton Branch of Preble County District Library.

The programs offered are “Mother Goose Lap-Time” which is for children ages 6 months to 3 years on Wednesday or Thursdays at 10:30 am. This is a 30-minute class.

“Library Mice Preschool Storytime” is for children ages three to kindergarten. This class is available on Wednesday or Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. or Thursday afternoon at 4:45 p.m. This is a 45-minute class.

“After School Crafts” for children ages 6 to 12 years old. This class is on Thursday afternoons at 4:45 p.m. and runs for 60 minutes.

The fall session will run from Oct. 7- Nov. 12

Homeschool Hour – Magnets

School’s back in session, and that means a new series of monthly Homeschool Hour programs for area students and educators. You’ll be attracted to our first subject of the 2015-16 year as we learn about magnets on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 3 p.m. The class is at the Library Administration Office meeting room at 450 S. Barron St. in Eaton.

Jill’s Giant Adventure by Minnetrista Theatre

The Minnetrista Theatre will bring more shows to the Preble County District Library branches in September and October. Join us for an imaginative retelling of Jack and the Beanstalk. Kids will journey with Jill as she faces a bully (the giant) and empowers Jack with the tools to handle bullies by himself. Children will discover with Jill how being a good friend is heroic and how they can be heroes for their friends.

Teen Anime Club

Try Japanese snacks (green tea pocky!) and make anime/manga inspired crafts at the Eaton Branch on Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 3:30 p.m. (Program for teens in grades 6-12)

Teen Mario Kart Wii U Tournament

Compete in Mario Kart on the Wii U with other teens (grades 6-12). We’ll also make Mario crafts and eat Mario-themed snacks at the Eaton Branch Library on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 3:30 p.m.

Teen Creative Writing Group

Local teens in grades 6-12 can spur their creative juices at the Teen “Write On!” writing club. We’ll have creative writing prompts, snacks, and you can talk with other teens about writing. You can share aloud, but you don’t have to!

Join us on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 3:30 p.m.

Teen Retro Games

Have you played the classic game Oregon Trail? Or Sonic the Hedgehog on the old school Sega Genesis? Now’s your chance! Play retro games at the library and eat snacks on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 3:30 p.m. at the Eaton Branch Library.

*Space is limited for all teen programs. Come early to ensure your spot.

Adult Crafting: Bleached T-Shirts

Bring a colored t-shirt to your local library branch in September and create a cool design using stencils and bleach. Large plastic bags will be available to cover up your clothing. Sign up in person or by phone at your local branch:

Basic Microsoft Excel class

Microsoft’s popular spreadsheet software, Microsoft Excel, is used for creating business invoices, tracking household budgets, creating schedules, and much more. But first, learn the basics of Excel at this library class on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 5:30 p.m. Call 937-456-5562 to register.

Learn to borrow e-books

Do you have a Kindle, another e-reader, or a tablet and want to know how you can borrow e-books with your library card? It’s free, and books return automatically, no overdue fines!

Bring your device to a free class on e-books at the Eldorado Branch of Preble County District Library on Tuesday, Sept. 22 from 2-3 p.m. to get an introduction to library e-books. Registration is required. Call 937-456-5562 to register.
