SWCD offering scholarship

The Preble Soil & Water Conservation District is offering a $1,000 college scholarship to a Preble County high school graduate who is entering their sophomore year or above at an accredited college. They must be a full-time student pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree in the field of agriculture or natural resources, and registered for fall term of 2016.

Lewisburg Alumni scholarship

The Lewisburg Alumni will be offering $1,000 scholarships in 2016. An applicant must be a graduate of the Lewisburg schools. The applicant must have completed one year at a college or accredited technical school and plans to return as a full-time student during the 2016-17 school year.

Applications will be available on March 21 at the following locations in Lewisburg: Brown Memorial Library, Brookville Building & Savings and the LCNB National Bank, and Farmers State Bank.

Written request for forms should be mailed to Lewisburg Alumni Association, P.O. Box 279, Lewisburg, OH 45338.

M&A INC. offering scholarship

Mote & Associates, Inc., Engineers and Land Surveyors, of Greenville, established a scholarship in October of 2002 at a celebration to honor the founder of the firm, Richard Mote, for his 30 years of dedicated leadership and his passion for engineering and surveying. The scholarship is for a commendable student seeking a post high school education or enrolled in an accredited college program in the field of engineering, surveying, architecture, or a closely related field of study.

High School and College Undergraduate Scholarship applications for the 2015-2016 academic year can be accessed and completed on-line at www.moteassociates.com; or may be requested by contacting the company office listed below.

ONF offering scholarship, internships

The Ohio Newspapers Foundation has broadened scholarship opportunities for students majoring in one of the following newspaper industry related fields: journalism, advertising, marketing, and communications.

For college students there are three $1,500 university journalism scholarships, one $1,500 Harold Douthit regional scholarship, and one $1,500 ONWA annual scholarship. For Ohio high school seniors there is one $1,500 minority scholarship. Interested students must attend an Ohio college or university. The scholarships will be awarded in May 2016.

All scholarship applications require an essay and examples of activities that demonstrate a commitment to a career in their newspaper related field. The deadline for all applications is Thursday, March 31.

The office of The Ohio Newspaper Association offers two paid summer internships, a publications/public relations internship and an advertising internship.

The publications/public relations internship allows a student to work in the Columbus office of this trade association which represents Ohio’s newspapers, their affiliated websites and a growing number of digital local news outlets in Ohio. Duties include writing and assisting in production of electronic newsletter (ONA Bulletin); miscellaneous fliers and mailings; meeting planning; research.

The advertising internship allows a student to work with AdOhio, an affiliate of ONA which shares the same Columbus office. Duties include: writing and layout for sales presentation sheets and client mailings; research; updating and producing promotional materials; creating and organizing PowerPoint presentations; designing display ads; selling network advertising; and more.

DPL, Vectren offering scholarships

The Dayton Power and Light Company (DP&L) and Vectren Energy Delivery of Ohio (Vectren), are offering three scholarships to high school seniors who plan to work in the energy industry.

Each $1,000 scholarship will be granted for college tuition and expenses to deserving students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, knowledge and an interest in continuing their studies by pursuing an energy-related career.

The scholarships will be facilitated by the Ohio Energy Project, a non-profit energy education organization that also works with DP&L and Vectren on their energy efficiency programs and activities, including the annual Energy Fair. The University of Dayton is host to the Energy Fair which allows high school students to teach younger students about energy efficiency through hands-on experiments and games.

Students applying for the scholarships must be graduating seniors and members of families who are DP&L or Vectren customers. Students must present involvement in energy-related classroom, school or community activities or programs.

The deadline for applying for a scholarship is April 15.
