Thanks to a generous anonymous donor, facilities at National Trail Local Schools are receiving some exciting upgrades.
“You can’t describe how much gratitude you feel,” Superintendent Jeff Parker said.
“These are items schools don’t ask taxpayers for. If we didn’t get this donation, in the next 10 years or so we’d have had to mount some sort of major fund raising project,” Parker said.
The donor approached school officials last summer, interested in needs the district might have, and one of those was a new band tower.
The improvements continued with new bleachers for the football stadium, both home and away.
And lights for the stadium.
New scoreboards for basketball, volleyball and wrestling — and refinishing of the floor — for the high school gymnasium.
And a motorized mechanism for the middle school gymnasium bleachers.
All totaled, the anonymous donor has given the district over $400,000 in donations to meet the school’s needs.
Parker said the donor has been kept informed as the projects are completed, and has been asked for input. The projects are paid for as the money is in hand.
“The donor feels all students in Preble County should have some nice things,” Parker said.
“We’re very blessed the donor picked us.”
The donor wants no credit for the projects that have been funded.
The lights which were replaced at the football stadium were purchased and installed by a dedicated core Athletic Booster group, according to school officials. Those lights will be offered to anyone or group in the National Trail School District who may have a need for them. If interested, Brian Smith can be contacted at 937-437-3333. Bids for the lights may be taken at a later date.
The facility was already one of the best due to the work of the Boosters, according to Parker. “It’s exciting for the students,” he said. “But maybe the most exciting part is it’s not costing taxpayers anything,” he added.
The home side bleachers will have 935 seats, and 10 handicapped.
The visitors’ side will be double its old size, and will be elevated. It will have a handicap ramp and seating.
