W. Alex at Expo


The Celebration Committee will be part of the W. Alex Village booth at the Preble County Expo at the Fairgrounds in Eaton, Ohio again this year. We would like to compile a list of events that will be happening in our community from April 2014-April 2015 to hand out at this event. If you would like your business or organization event or fundraiser to be listed please provide specific information to Michelle Laughlin via facebook or email michellellaughlin@yahoo.com by March 22. Events will also be added to the Village facebook pages. Minimum information required: Date, Time, Organization/Business, Name of event, Location of event. TVRGC


Venison for Food Banks


The Twin Valley Rod and Gun Club semi-annual Turkey Shoot takes place every Sunday through April 27. Starting time is 1 p.m. This event is open to everyone and we hope to see a nice crowd. This is our main fundraiser each year. Come on out and win turkeys, hams, bacon and packages of mixed kinds of meat. Money shoots are also held.


The Venison for Food Banks of Preble County program is on-going. Anyone who takes a deer can donate all or part of the meat for the Foodbanks. We have sponsors who will take care of the processing fees. You may contact Brad Turner, Preble County Game Warden, or Curtis Early at 937-533-3226.


American Legion


The West Alexandria SAL James E. Ryan Post#322 will be hosting a St. Patrick’s Day Dance on Saturday, March 22 from 8 p.m.-midnight. Flat Out Band will entertain at cost of $10 per person, limited to 140 people. The Canteen will close at 7 p.m.. You must have a ticket for the dance to enter after 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale now in the Canteen, located at 477 Ohio 503 South in West Alexandria. The Children’s Easter Egg Hunt will be Saturday April 19 at 11 a.m. Please sign up in the canteen by April12. Children must be sponsored by a member and be 12 yearsof age or younger.


Twin Valley Schools


Disney’s “The Little Mermaid”


Please join us for the high school presentation of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid”. The play will be held Friday, March 21 and Saturday, March 22 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, March 23, at 2 p.m. in the Auditorium. Tickets are available pre-sale in the High School office or at the door. Cost is $8.


TVS Band


On March 14, the HS Band will perform for District Large Group Contest at Middletown Madison. Three TVS students will perform for All County Band, March 17 and 18 in Eaton. The HS Band will perform March 30 and 31 at the Findlay Market Parade.


Marching Band Cook Books make great gifts at just $10 each. Sales are first come, first served! We are in the process of ordering new marching band uniforms and appreciate your support. Please contact TVS HS Band Director, Kris Baker, Booster President Kathy Landwehr at 336-2511 or any Band member. Checks should be made out to TVS Band Boosters and can also be mailed to P.O. Box 204, West Alexandria, OH 45381. If you are interested in becoming a part of our Band Boosters, please join us on the third Tuesday of each month in the TVS Band Room at 7 p.m. We always need fresh faces and ideas!


Alpha Kappa Sorority


AKS is holding another Great Event! There will be a Euchre Tournament Fundraiser, April 5, at the American Legion followed by some live music! Two ways to attend and have a great time while supporting a great philanthropic group!


Euchre Tournament:


Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Euchre tournament starts at 6p.m. $15 a person for Euchre tournament (includes admission, euchre tournament, Live music, BYOB, Prizes for 1st and 2nd places). Limited availability for Tournament/ Pre-sale tickets only to Euchre Tournament


Band event only-Live Music by 3 Play,starts at 9:30 p.m.


Pre-sale admission is $8 ($10 at the door) but space/ admission is limited so buy a pre-sale ticket. This admission includes live music and BYOB (doesn’t include participation in the tournament- though you may attend and watch the tournament if you like). A 50/50 and assorted raffle baskets for silent auction will be there to help raise money for AKS endeavors to support our community! Shot Bar Available too! YUMMY! Pre-registration is due no later than March 29 or until limited space is filled for both the tournament and the band.


The Alpha Kappa Sorority of W. Alex., sponsoring this event, has been serving our community since 1941. We are a non-profit organization of women who raise money to donate to families during the holidays, and throughout the year. We provide 2 scholarships to graduating seniors from TVS, and we sponsor the Oktoberfest Queen Contest, the local library, WABO, the fire dept. among others. Thank you for coming out and supporting our events!


Foodbank


Items needed are tuna, instant oatmeal, egg noodles, box mashed potatoes, pancake syrup, spaghetti sauce, and shampoo. You may contact the Foodbank at 839-1615. Hours are Monday and Wednesday from 10a.m.-12p.m. at St. John Church, 20 East South Street.


The first Sunday of each month, non-perishable donations can be brought to Salem and St. John Lutheran Churches.


Calvary Baptist Church


Calvary Baptist Church has started a Good News Bible Club for students in grades K-4 at the TVS Middle School. We meet every Thursday from 3:30-5p.m. as long as school is open. Contact Wayne Cook at 937-336-9600 or Linda Cook 336-9500 for more information.


St. John Lutheran


St. John along with Salem Lutheran and Trinity in Lewisburg are planning a work trip through the Youthworks organization geared towards all ages, this summer, June 15-22 in Booneville, AK. There will be fundraisers planned in the upcoming months.

Church of the Brethren


Soup and Salad Luncheon, Sunday, March 23, 12-1:30 p.m. A Free Will Offering will be accepted.


Menu includes vegetable, chili, potato and chicken noodle soup, cream turkey sandwich and hot dogs, salad and dessert. Sponsored by the West Alex Church of the Brethren, 22 East Oak St. West Alex. Church phone is 937-839-5417.


Community Christian Church


Community Christian Church, 11 Dorsey Akers Dr., is currently presenting a twenty-two week film series entitled “The Truth Project”, by Focus on the Family, every Wednesday from 7-8p.m. http://www.thetruthproject.org/


CCC services: Sunday School at 9 a.m., Worship at 10 a.m., Sunday evenings at 6p.m. Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m.


Salem Lutheran Church


Salem Lutheran held its annual Jr. Lutherans Year-End Party on Wednesday, Feb. 16. Forty children ages preschool through grade 6 attended the party, which included a pizza dinner with “Jr. Lutherans Rocks!” cake (donated by Salem member, Amy Ehler). Each child received an “I’m Wild About Jesus” stuffed animal. The 5th/6th grade students performed 3 puppet skits. Special Awards were presented. The child who brought the most friends to Jr. Lutherans this year was Katie Wright. High Scorers on the Year-End Test for each grade level were: Grade 3-Katie Wright, Grade 4-Wyatt House and Lynnlee Voge, Grade 5-Kailee Burkett, Grade 6-Zoe Utsinger. Overall high scorers were Lynnlee Voge and Wyatt House. Clara Meyers and Alli Class were recognized for visiting Heartland of Eaton to hand out valentines. Thank you to the Jr. Lutherans teachers: Preschool-Kristen Morris, Preschool/Kdg.-Brenda Wright, Grades 1 & 2 -Jenifer Overmyer and Debbie Meyers, Grades 3 & 4 -Wendy Chesney, Grades 5 & 6 -Amy Ehler. Assistants were Missy Riegel, Caitlyn Meyers and Nicole Ehler. Easter Basket night where baskets for the Food Bank will be filled, is on Wed., April 9 from 6:15 to 7p.m.. All children welcome and will meet upstairs. Bring donations of items to fill the baskets.


Salem LYO will be hosting a soup lunch directly after worship services the first Sunday of each month in the Fellowship Hall. Cost will be a donation in any amount. The collected funds will assist the youth attending the ELCA National Youth Gathering in 2015. Please see this website for more information. http://www.elca.org/YouthGathering. Youth Committee Meetings will be held the first Tuesday of each month at 7p.m. in the Fellowship Hall, beginning in March. These meetings are open to all youth, parents and members who would like to contribute ideas for the youth. Lenten Services have begun at 7 p.m.Wednesday evenings, with a Lenten Meal from 5:45-6:45 p.m. There will be Lenten meals and services every Wednesday through April 9.


Catechism classes will not meet during Lent but will resume starting Wednesday, April 23.


The Men’s Breakfast and Bible Study will be 7:30 a.m., Saturday, March 15 in the Fellowship Hall.


Salem is collecting “Coups for Troops”. Coupons up to two months expired are accepted overseas for our military personnel to use at the commissaries. Place coupons in the basket located in the Church Library.


Children’s Choir practices begin at 9:20 a.m., Sunday School classes for all ages begin at 9:30 a.m. and Worship begins at 10:30 a.m. every Sunday.

March 1-30 -Craft Basket Giveaway in honor of National Craft Month. Each time a patron visits the library they may enter to win our National Craft Month Basket.


“Luck of the Irish” Saturday, March 1-Monday, March 17. You don’t have to be Irish to try to win our “pot of gold”. Simply visit the library and fill out “What would you wish for” slip. Tell us what you would wish for or do with a pot of gold.


Teen Tech Week March 10-15. Presented by Teen Librarian. Theme: DIY @ Your Library


National Art Week - Monday, March 17 -Saturday, March 22.Visit the library and do a craft on our craft table. We will have a variety of crafts for you to choose from.


Children’s Picture Book Day - Friday, March 28. Open to children 12 and under. Visit the library and pick out a free children’s picture book from a selection of books to add to your personal library.


Color Crayola Day - Monday, March 31 -Who doesn’t still love to color with their Crayola crayons? Visit the library today and if you check out an item you can be entered to win our Crayola gift basket.
