We are now accepting membership dues for 2014 at the Preble County Senior Center. There are several benefits of membership; 1) You have voting rights at the annual meeting in June; 2) You are able to rent The Gathering Place or Senior Center Great Room at a reduced rate; 3) You will receive the bi-monthly “Senior Scene” Newsletter, with all the latest information on services, activities and travel information; 4) Receive a discounted price on “Time Traveler” trips, and events and activities. (Present your membership card to receive the discounted price.) Although you don’t need to be a member to use the Council on Aging services or the Senior Center, membership is required to receive a monthly newsletter. We thank you in advance.

The Preble County Senior Center is bringing an important service, Life Line Screening sponsored by Premier Health, to The Gathering Place, 501 Nation Avenue, Eaton, Ohio on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014. Many of you may not know that stroke is a leading cause of death today, affecting over 750,000 people each year. Every 45 seconds in America, someone suffers a stroke and every 3 minutes, someone dies from one. This means that during the time today it will take you to read this, approximately 15 people in the United States will have died due to a stroke. Stroke can change your life, but it can also take your life. Please consider taking part in one or more of the following potentially life-saving screenings. Screenings that are available include: Stroke/Carotid Artery Screening; Heart Rhythm Screening (Atrial Fibrillation); Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening; Peripheral Arterial Disease Screening; and Osteoporosis Risk Assessment.

Life Line Screening is working with the Preble County Senior Center to provide our members a $10 additional discount off the cost of a screening package in addition to a $10 donation to the Senior Center. If you would like to take the next step in possibly saving your life or the life of someone you know and if you would like to help us as well, please register by:

When we have impending bad weather, The Preble County Council on Aging calls local television stations early in the morning with our closing or delay status. However, the information is not always displayed on television, but it is usually listed on the internet. We realize not everyone has a computer and internet access, so we recommend that you call the Council on Aging at 456-4947 to get the latest update. We will always have a recording listing our closing or delay information, and whether we will have transportation and home delivered meals that day. We try to get the word out to everyone, but calling our phone number is a fast easy way to get the information.

The Congregate Meal Program is available from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm in the Courtyard Café at the Preble County Senior Center, 800 East St. Clair Street, Eaton. Income eligibility is not required. Transportation may be available. To schedule lunch transportation, or to make a reservation, please call the Senior Center at 937-456-4947. The Senior Center’s “Courtyard Café” is also open to the public for lunch from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm five days a week - Monday through Friday. All ages are welcome.

The Senior Center is selling laundry soap in the gift shop. The soap sells for at a cost of $2 for a gallon or $1 for a half gallon. The soap saves money, is odorless, and a great stain remover.
