At press time, the investigation continued into the suspicious death of an 18-month-old.

The infant from New Paris was found unresponsive and not breathing in her home Monday, March 17, and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Officers from the New Paris Police Department at North West Fire and Ambulance Service arrived on the scene on Dee Drive at approximately 7:25 a.m. and found the child deceased.

Officers were notified that CPR had been performed on the child prior to the officers’ arrival, according to a press release from the NPD.

The mother of the child found the child in its crib and observed the baby was not breathing.

Officials on the case are determining the child’s cause of death. An autopsy was performed Tuesday,March 18, however results will not be released to the public until a later date.

New Paris Police are currently reviewing records obtained from Children’s Services and interviewing members of the child’s family.

The investigation remains ongoing.
