A one-vehicle crash left the majority of West Alexandria without power for a time on Wednesday, March 19, and left two passengers in the vehicle with non-life threatening injuries.

Katherine Bean, 37, of West Alexandria, and a 15-year-old minor, were traveling north-bound on Jordan Road, when Bean, the driver of the vehicle, traveled off of the left side of the road, striking a utility pole.

The accident left residents of West Alexandria without electricity for approximately two hours.

The Preble County Sheriff’s Office indicated that the driver possibly fell asleep at the wheel. After striking the pole, the vehicle then rolled and came to rest on the passenger’s side. First responders used tools to extract the two occupants from the vehicle. The driver is expected to be cited for failure to control.

The investigation into why the driver fell asleep continued at press time.

West Alexandria Fire & EMS responded to the scene. The minor in the vehicle was transported to Miami Valley Hospital. West Alexandria Police Department assisted the sheriff’s department with traffic control as well.
