Brown Bag speaker series
The number of unemployed workers is still high, but companies are still having a hard time finding qualified workers. How do you find truly qualified people? “Recruiting in the 21st Century” presented by John Abrams and John Spencer of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services will help get you on the right track with recruiting efforts. Learn about the services available to organizations through the new ‘Ohio Means Jobs’ employment portal for finding employees and tools to improve your current workforce.
Free online classes
The PCDL has begun offering a wider variety of free online classes. The library now provides access to a service called Universal Class, which has over 500 self-paced classes. Anyone with a library card can register for classes ranging from business and accounting to writing and digital photography. Universal Class can be accessed through the library’s website at www.preblelibrary.org/reference.
Summer Reading Kickoff
The PCDL has programs lined up for all seven branches for the annual Summer Reading Program. There’ll be magic, live animal visits, storytimes, contests, and prizes. There are events scheduled for children, tween, teen, and adults with prizes for each group. Each branch will give away an Amazon Kindle to a lucky adult reader this summer. Teens will have a chance to win an iPad mini and other great prizes. Full schedules of events for each branch are available online at www.preblelibrary.org/sr2014.html. Summer Reading begins June 2 and runs through July 26.
What are you reading this summer? Come to the Eaton Branch of PCDL to share your adventures with friends and make some new friends. The first summer Book Talk will be held at the Eaton Branch at 301 N. Barron St. on Thursday, June 19 at 6:30 p.m. It’s free and open to the public. Bring a friend. Future ‘Book Talks’ sessions will be held on Thursday, July 17 and Thursday, Aug. 21.
Take a Storybook Stroll through Garber
The Preble County Park District is teaming up with the Preble County District Library to bring a unique way to experience a children’s book and nature simultaneously. On Friday, June 20 from 1-3 p.m., the Library and Park District will take families through the Garber Nature Center. Pages from Marianne Berkes’ storybook ‘Over in the Forest’ will be posted throughout the trail. Read a story while learning about the animals and their habitat. At the end of the program, you’ll have a chance to build your own windsock!
