Preble Shawnee’s girls’ basketball team beats Dixie, falls to Milton-Union in final week of regular season

CAMDEN — Preble Shawnee’s girls’ basketball team closed out the regular season with a split of its final two games.

After starting the season 2-7, Shawnee finished the season winning seven of its last nine games and 10 of its last 13 to end the regular season 12-10 overall and 6-6 in the Southwestern Buckeye League Buckeye Division.

In the final week, the Arrows shot past Dixie 55-27 on Monday, Feb. 6 at Dixie.

Senior Malorie Plaugher paced the Arrows with 17 points and six rebounds.

Sophomore Jenna Lovely added nine points, while sophomore Brenna Woodard chipped in with eight points and had four steals.

Shawnee jumped out to a 10-5 lead after the first quarter and extended its lead to 27-13 at half. The Arrows’ defense limited Dixie to just four points in the third quarter as Shawnee pushed its lead to 41-17.

The win was Shawnee’s second over the Greyhounds in two weeks. The Arrows won the first meeting 34-27 on Jan. 30.

The Arrows dropped a 44-38 decision at Milton-Union on Thursday, Feb. 9.

Shawnee led 9-7 after the first eight minutes and the game was tied 20-20 at the half. Milton took the lead, 33-31, after three and outscored the Arrows 11-7 in the fourth for the final margin.

Shawnee is scheduled to begin tournament play on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 3:30 p.m., in the Franklin-Monroe sectional.
