NEW PARIS — The National Trail High School boys’ golf team will look completely different than it did a year ago. The Blazers lost their top three golfers from last season – Kyle Bachman, Trevor Gates, and Tyler Glander.
Bachman is currently pursuing playing golf at Indian University East.
After Bachman, Gates, and Glander graduated, it left National Trail with no seniors on their roster for this upcoming season. However, there were five freshmen on the team last season, and they have all returned this year. The five returning sophomores are Bryten Jones, Logan Pettit, Isaac Plankenhorn, Brian Harrison, and Jonathan Turner.
They also added junior Brandon Stewart and freshmen Chris Brubaker this season.
While National Trail’s roster drinks from the fountain of youth, the team is looking forward to their potential moving forward. They have the right format in place to become a tough opponent for anyone in the next few seasons.
“Our team is very young, we are looking to gain experience in each match and tournament to prepare for the next two years. This team has the ability to finish in the top 5 still this season,” said head coach Derek Ary.
Ary has high hopes for Jones and Pettit this season as well, saying the two golfers have the potential to finish in the top 12 individually this fall.
National Trail competed in the pre-season Ryder Cup last Friday, Aug. 8. They joined all the local golf teams on Monday, Aug. 11, as well to compete in the County Match.
The Blazers are also hosting Dixie on Tuesday, Aug. 12, and will be traveling to Covington on Wednesday for the Kendig Invitational. The golfers will then open up league play when they host Cross County Conference foe Newton on Monday, Aug. 18.
