Archives seeks Camden newspapers

CAMDEN — Do you have old Camden newspapers that you hate to throw away, but don’t know what to do with?

The Camden Archives is seeking for its permanent collection the donation of original printed issues of any of the following weekly Camden-based newspapers: Camden Herald (1870s), Camden Weekly Gazette and Camden Gazette (1880s – early 1900s), and the Preble County News (1902 – to the last issue, published on April 9, 1992.)

The Archives maintains a set of 35 microfilm rolls available for public viewing on our microfilm reader at our Camden Town Hall office. These rolls contain thousands of very readable pages from the above publications (although no Preble County News exists on film beyond Dec. 29, 1989.) The Archives would love to expand its limited hard-copy collection with donated newspapers to complement its microfilm resources.

The Camden Archives is open Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1:30-4:30 p.m., as well 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month.

For more information or to make donations, contact Helen Whitesell (937-733-8659) or Cherry Anderson (937-974-5523.)
