Arrows cap week with win over TVS

CAMDEN — Preble Shawnee’s girls’ basketball team capped off a perfect 4-0 week with a convincing 57-28 win over visiting Twin Valley South on Saturday, Jan. 28.

With the win, Shawnee has now won seven of its last eight games.

The Arrows defense limited South to just a pair of field goals in the first half, but only led 23-14 at the half, thanks in part to the Panthers’ accuracy at the free throw line.

For the half, South was 2-for-18 shooting from the field, but was 11-of-14 at the free throw line.

Shawnee also struggled shooting in the first half, making just 10-of-32 shots, including going 1-for-13 from 3-point range.

Shawnee created some separation in the third quarter behind the play of sophomore point guard Nicole Sims. Sims scored 13 of her game-high 16 points in the quarter as the Arrows extended their lead to 42-21 after three quarters.

Shawnee was 6-of-14 for the quarter, including going 3-of-6 from 3-point range, all from Sims. Sophomore Brenna Woodard and senior Malorie Plaugher each finished the game with 10 points.

In the fourth, Shawnee pushed the lead to 29 on two occasions.

The Arrows opened the quarter on an 8-0 run on a 3-pointer from Woodard and baskets from Sims, Logan Hollon and Cami Hollon to make it 50-21 with just under five minutes to play.

South responded with a 7-0 run to make it 50-28, before the Arrows closed out the scoring with a 6-0 run.

Junior Mylan Crews led South with nine points.

For the game, South finished 6-for-40 from the field, including 3-of-13 from 3-point range. The Panthers also committed 22 turnovers.

For Shawnee, the Arrows were 20-of-57 shooting, including 5-of-21 on 3-pointers. The Arrows outrebounded the Panthers 41-28.

Shawnee also picked up wins over Cincinnati Christian (34-21), National Trail (49-27) and Northridge (53-35).

The Arrows improved to 9-8 overall and 4-4 SWBL Buckeye Division with the wins.

South opened the week with a 38-34 win over Broovkille.

The Panthers won a four-quarter defensive battle with the Devils as Crews led the Panthers with 10 and Madison Johnson added nine. Kelsie Shafer brought down 10 rebounds. Brookville was led by Kaylee Wheat with 10 points and Kylie Surber with 8 points.

Shawnee was scheduled to play Dixie on Monday, Jan. 30. They will play at Ponitz on Thursday and at Madison on Saturday.

South (4-12) was scheduled to host Dunbar on Tuesday and Ansonia on Thursday. South will play at rival Tri-County North on Monday, Feb. 6.
