North runners expect to compete

LEWISBURG — Last year, Tri-County North’s cross country team was young. Their roster, holding only 13 runners, included nine freshmen and sophomores. The boys finished 10th in the Cross County Conference while the girls finished eighth.

Moving into this season, head coach Tim Martin is hoping youthful runners will turn into experienced runners and allow the team to improve upon last year’s efforts.

“My expectation this year is to compete, not merely finish. I know that’s a generic answer, but a true one,” said Martin. “[I’d like] to be in a position at the end of the season to at least have a shot at moving some on to Regional, if not as a team.”

But Martin doesn’t want to team to only develop new personal records for his runners, but rather a love for their sport.

“I want us to do the work and gel as a team, which they are starting to do. Realizing it is a team concept is crucial,” he said.

The Panthers only lose two seniors from last year – Allie Kring and Megan Duffy – while adding three new seniors into their roster. The team will be led by Aidan Tomlin, the team’s captain. He is joined by Tristan Singleton and Dakota Cox as well.

Rounding out the rest of the team is Ryan Combs, Krislynn Hogan, Lauren Koenig, Lindsay Owens, Trenton Napier, Patrick Timmons, Bailey Hilt, Taylor Cooper, Sierra Cooper.

North’s season starts on Tuesday, Aug. 25 when they travel a short distance to Eaton High School for the First to the Line event. They will also head to Milton Union on that Saturday, Aug. 29, for the Bob Schul Invitational.
