EATON — It was rough ending to the regular season for Eaton’s girls’ basketball team.
The Eagles dropped a pair of games to visiting Northmont (74-24) on Monday, Feb. 6 and at Bellbrook (56-21) on Thursday, Feb. 9, to close out the regular season.
Eaton finished the regular season 6-16 overall and 3-9 in the Southwestern Buckeye League’s Southwestern Division.
Against Northmont, the Eagles were overmatched from the start, as the Bolts raced out to a 15-5 lead after the first quarter. Northmont extended its lead to 34-13 at halftime.
Any chance of an Eaton comeback was dashed in the third quarter as Northmont outscored the Eagles 27-11 to push its lead to 61-24. Eaton was outscored 13-0 in the fourth for the final margin.
Freshman Bailey Shepherd paced Eaton with six points and sophomore Ashlynn Black added five.
Against Bellbrook, Eaton turned the ball over on its first four possessions and trailed just 7-6 with about two minutes left the first quarter, but Bellbrook began to pull away late in the first quarter and the beginning of the second quarter. Eaton trailed 11-6 after one and 27-10 at halftime.
For the game, Eaton committed 44 turnovers, while shooting just 8-of-18 from the field for the game.
Sophomore Emily Dungan led Eaton with six points and fellow sophomore Annika Gels added five.
Eaton is off until Monday, Feb. 20. The Eagles will face No. 4 seed Kenton Ridge in the opening round of the Tecumseh Division II sectional at 7:30 p.m.
