TV South off to hot start on volleyball court

WEST ALEXANDRIA — Twin Valley South’s volleyball program started its season off on the right side of the net and have yet to lose a set on the season. The Lady Panthers are currently sitting at 3-0 with opening week wins against Stivers, Madison, and Carlisle.

South hosted Stivers for their opening day on Monday, Aug. 24, where they beat the Tigers in straight sets, 25-7, 25-10, and 25-15.

“Mylan (Crews) did a nice job of distributing the ball tonight,” said South head coach Leslie Roberts.

Crews finished the game with 15 assists. She also added one ace and five digs on the night.

They had big nights from Madison Wright and Emma Fergus at the service line as well; the two finished with four aces and one ace, respectively. Wright added seven digs and Fergus finished with five kills and two blocks.

Abby Beneke added 13 kills and eight digs and Audrey Chesney chipped in five kills and four solo blocks as the two played big up at the net for South.

Also contributing for South were Delaney Adams with two kills, Samantha Janecek with four assists and one kill, and Sidney Mowell with one dig and one assist.

On Tuesday, South played at home once again, beating Madison in straight sets, 25-21, 25-17, and 25-16.

Beneke led the squad with 15 kills while Fergus added up seven kills and a solo block.

Crews once against distributed the ball well, handing out 14 assists. Chesney and Adams chipped in five kills and three kills, respectively, while Wright went 22 of 24 on serve receive with 23 digs and one kill.

The Lady Panthers finished out the week on the road at Carlisle on Saturday, Aug. 29, keeping the winning streak alive as they won the match in straight sets once again, 25-11, 25-15, and 25-20

Adams led the way for South as she charted 15 points, five aces and posted 10 for 11 on serve receive. She also added eight digs and three kills on the day.

Crews had 13 assists and five kills in the match while Beneke added nine digs, five assists and eight kills. Wright also chipped in nine digs.

South was scheduled to host Dunbar on Monday, Aug. 31, before opening up league play on Thursday, Sept. 3, against Franklin Monroe at 5:30 p.m.
